The de Havilland DH.108 "Swallow" was a British experimental aircraft designed by John Carver Meadows Frost in October 1945. It was a flying wing designed to evaluate swept-wing handling characteristics at low and high subsonic speeds for the proposed early tailless design of what would later become the Comet airliner. Three examples of the DH.108 were built, to the Air Ministry specifications E.1/45 and E.11/45.

Wonderful to see this film. I remember the 'Flying Wing' when it was flown from Birmingham (Elmdon) airport during a series of air races and demonstrations in 1948, when it was futuristic, exciting, and extremely loud! More videos of this would be welcome.

IIRC this was actually designed to be the worlds first supersonic jet, but various 'political' intrigues saw the Yanks get there first. Apparently Geoffrey de Havilland (son of company founder, and chief test pilot) was killed flying one of these planes.

Right, he died during a practice flight on 27th September, 1946, the aircraft's structure failed at around Mach. 0.9, and it broke up, falling into Egypt Bay, near Gravesend, Kent.
