The Saturn Astra is an all-new car. At least it's new to the American automotive landscape: Astra has been offered for years in Europe under the Opel flag, where it's been giving the VW Golf a run for top-seller bragging rights. The new Astra is so much better in every respect than the Saturn model it replaces that we've forgotten the earlier compact's name.

its ok, i dont like the shape too much. Looks like the Matrix which is sorta eyesore for me.
give it more power and change that ugly panel screen. and did the guy say they have 11 different engine options in europe to our 1...wtf?!

The interior doesn't need Americanized. Euro GM makes great interiors... put the color LCD from the Euro Astra in in place of that garish orange LCD, give it some more frills like automatic climate control and nav. If it's not intuitive... that's what the damn manual is for... stop decontenting to satisfy people who don't take 20 minutes to learn how to work their vehicle. At least give the option of the 2.4 or the 2.0 Di powerplants and call it a day.

By giving the interior a once over and "americanising it", I take it that he means they should give it an illogical, unergonomic layout, decrease the levels of build qualities to the shabby levels that Americans love so much, fill it to the brim with shitty electronics that no one really needs and will no doubt break down. So, its only an astra, and compared with the rest of european cars its pretty average, but next to american competitors its about 10 years more advanced.

Here in Germany the Astra is one of the most sold cars. I don't understand, why 1.8 and 140 hp is not enough. Most people here buy 1.6 with ~110 hp. No one can afford bigger engines any more, one liter fuel cost more than 1,50 Euro in Germany! That would be 9$ per gallon...in comparison with 4$ you Americans live in paradise!

Stupid review, the reason I'm not considering the Astra is certainly not the interior which is better than average, but the crappy engine choice (no choice) that GM is giving the US market.

yeah im am going to agree about the gas thing but in the same respects america is alot bigger place than germany and the countries over in europe, so the travel is alot lower in europe than america, there for less gas consuption, but i love to DRIVE my car it awsome, das ist zehr goot

I can live with a 1.8 only but 11 different engine choices in Europe and we only get 1?

The interior is too difficult for the Americans? Jesus - they really ARE thick! It's hardly hard to operate. Then again, most Yanks drive Hummers and are called Bubba.

Ive got the UK Vauxhall version, 1.6 5 speed manual. Its a very quick car, and im not sure why most americans insist on auto's. Personaly ( Don't jump down my throat) auto's are awful! Manual you have so much more control and it wont change gear when the clock hits 30. I think its unfair to all you americans that they only give you one option! Thats ridiculous! But still I love my astra! and at 115 bhp for a 1.6, its beats the hell out of most small cars on the road! which gives me joy :D:D
