Es interesante ver el retrato que se hace del puertorriqueno, particularmente si se tiene en cuenta el contexto historico del video;1941, en medio de la II guerra mundial. hay que preguntarse, quien lo hizo? con que proposito? A quien se dirige? entiendo es una clara propaganda americana, no para los puertorriquenos pero para los americanos mismos.

El fin, me parece, es vender un Puerto Rico blanqueado al pueblo americano, cosa que, como senala Jorge Duany en "The Puerto Rican Nation On The Move" se venia dando desde las primeras ferias mundiales (exposicion pan-americana en Bufalo 1901 y la feria de san luis en 1904) luego de la guerra hispano-americana en 1898. Pero, por que se querria blanquear la imagen de PR?

Es conocimiento general el hecho de que PR goza de una posicion estrategica en el caribe (desdela perspectiva americana,claro). Primero, y a partir de el 1898, represento una pieza clave en la defensa del canal de panama, cuya construccion comenzo en 1904 bajo la administracion de Roosevelt. Segundo, y se menciona explicitamente en el video(minuto 3:05), represento una pieza clave durante la II guerra mundial como defensa del territorio americano ante la ofensiva alemana.

Un lugar de tanta importancia debia ser del agrado del pueblo americano, un pueblo en donde la segragacion racial estuvo en boga hasta los 1960's. Por tanto, me parece, es la necesidad de presentar esta imagen de la isla; blancos, trabajadores, catolicos pero pobres ultimamente

Nobody's saying that puertorricans are white(although if you consider the 2,000 census, it appears that the general opinion among puertorricans is that white is better, but that's our colonial complex anyway). What is being said is that the American government needed to present a whiter version of puertorricans since the island played a major role in their exterior politics. Read then comment, please. The only thing clear here is your own complexes.

Most people can consider themselves white, but they know that they are not pure white; there is no reason to be ashamed.

Puerto Rico is not just one thing. It's racially diverse which is what makes it so great. White, black, mestizo, asian, etc. Let's stop the freaking putting down of "whites" or claiming Puertoricans are all "negros y mulatos" because it's untrue.
