Really something ... ( 1 month ago by d5crimson)
Really something how companies bought the properties along the gulf to rebuild & place casinos along it...while the original owners were sent away with 1-way tickets & a $2000 credit card. Does that mean, they dont want those people to ever come back? And how were the properties sold without the owners consent? Oh right, this is America. Sorry forgive me everyone.

As the anniversary ... ( 1 month ago by LynnBJohns01)
As the anniversary of this storm approaches, just about a month and a half away, I have been reading blogs about the "shiffless" citizens of the city of New Orleans until I'm about to puke. I am a Katrina "survivor" for lack of a better word, but from the beginning my people have been labeled as if they weren't even citizens of this country, let a lone to City of New Orleans. I worked hard to rebuild my home with my own funds.
The citizens were ... ( 1 month ago by LynnBJohns01)
The citizens were entitled to whatever government funds they received to recover. We lost everything, and whose fault was it? Was it the fault of the citizens or the neglect of the government for not managing the levees. Look around you. It's happening across this country. Are the people of New Orleans any less entitled because the majority of its citizens were black? Please, I know for certain that many owned their own homes.
Lost my home in the ... ( 1 month ago by mtnbkr65)
Lost my home in the 2003 California Wild Fires, wasn't anyones fault...Mother Nature my friend. I didn't look to the FEDs to bail me out, that's why people should carry homeowners/renters insurance. My property comes before bling/boats/cars/party, it's called taking responsibility for yourself. I see the "race card" being played as well. Why is that? I know that Katrina effected people of all races, not just blacks but you sure hear the race issue being echoed by blacks. --Cont--

You say "My People", do you mean the citizens of New Orleans or just the black citizens of New Orleans. When you have leaders like Mayor Nagen interfering with officials regarding who's incharge and chocolate city...you need to do some house cleaning in N.o. plain and simple. What did your state and local government do about the levees? Again, my heart bleeds for the people, ALL PEOPLE, who lost, been there as well, but it's not just the FEDS fault, lots of blame in your own yard!
I didn't vote for ... ( 1 month ago by LynnBJohns01)
I didn't vote for Nagin during either of his campaigns. I am African American, and one who don't believe that the color of one's skin gets my vote. I have worked hard my entire life having had my first job when I was 14 years old. I have also instilled a firm work ethic in my 3 daughters, one of whom is an RN, the second works medical billing and an elder daughter whose husband is a tug boat captian...
. . . is a ... ( 1 month ago by LynnBJohns01)
. . . is a stay-at-home mom. However, life is what it is, there is a large population of working poor in New Orleans, and that fact may or may not be evident in your state. I love my city/state and unless a devastating situation were to happen to me and my family again, I plan to stay in New Orleans. Whether that makes me stupid, illiterate, or whatever people feel comfortable labeling my and the citizens here, is of no importance to me.

Should we all just ... ( 3 weeks ago by Lifeisforevermusic)
Should we all just move into the middle of the country? I can tell you that it's never going to happen because there isn't enough room for everyone. This goes for other countries too. If you were born and raised there, you can't help it. I was born in Mississippi and raised in New Orleans, but I still had to go through that shit at eleven years old. You don't have to feel sorry for anyone, but you could've helped if you didn't, and almost three years later you can still help. They still need it.
You can hope that ... ( 3 weeks ago by Lifeisforevermusic)
You can hope that it'll hit again soon, but I can hope your there when it hits. Better yet, I can hope it hits your home, hits and destroys everything you've worked and lived for. See, I wouldn't wish anything like Katrina on anyone. You have a right to speak your opinion and I share that right. That being said I can tell you that I think your opinion is completely idiotic and crazy. I can tell you that I think your wrong.
It doesn't matter ... ( 3 weeks ago by Lifeisforevermusic)
It doesn't matter about the president, it doesn't matter about race. The reason the people of the city didn't leave, is because they chose not to, or they had no way to leave. I lived there and despite me being white, I left, and we had second thoughts about leaving. No one knew how bad it would be. Bush will be out by this coming January 1st and many many people will be happy, I agree.
Mother Nature ... ( 3 weeks ago by Lifeisforevermusic)
Mother Nature doesn't pick and choose what race it likes and which it hates. People can't choose what they're skin color is at birth.

im talkin about ... ( 3 weeks ago by chitownbound)
im talkin about atlantic hurricanes not mother nature in general.come on,even you cant be that blind not to notice that the majority of atlantic hurricanes take the exact same routes that the slave ships took and the tropical depressions always begin right off africas west coast around the cape verde islands....
... do you remember ... ( 3 weeks ago by chitownbound)
... do you remember hurricane ivan back in 2004?it was a cape verde hurricane and it was one of the longest living hurricanes.well after it made u.s.landfall and died a little small piece of the storm was still left in the gulf of mexico and became a tropical storm and headed str8 for new orleans.then a year later hurricane katriina.thats just too ironic for me

i was trapped in the superdome during katrina. i did everything i was supposed to. i boarded up my home, took my pets out, secured my vehicle & went into a shelter. from then on it was on city & emergency management. they f*ckd up royally. they never planned 4 what to do if the levees broke (forseeable for DECADES) & thus people would be trapped in the superdome. didnt think it out. i didn't stay home. i left my home ahead of the storm & still suffered because of city/government incompetence.

Federal government ... ( 2 weeks ago by stewartx5)
Federal government unfairly criticised following Katrina. National Response Plan makes local government responsible for planning/response, which can request additional resources from state and then state from federal. The federal government rarely provided assistance they did during Katrina. Following Hugo, for example, no $62.3 billion in aid for victims, hotel expenses for evacuees, or 37,000 trailers for shelter. As for race, most of Hugo's victims (deaths, homes & property, etc) were white.
