It's funny you say that. When I first heard Summer Days years ago (by Dragon Ash) I was sure the female vocalist was Chara, who was (and is) my favourite Japanese singer. When I found out it was Aco, who I'd never heard of at the time, I became an instant fan.
Now that I know her music very well, I don't really think she sounds so much like Chara. Or like anthroptics said, different enough that it's not a ripoff. I like them both very much.
