"eyes closed" - LOL - No, they are looking down at the sheet music (on their stands)! The JL band plays lots of charts, and there's no way the players could memorize every song's notes. Great performance by DW!!

actually parallaxel the JL band should know their parts really well i think derek watkins plays the solos with his eyes closed because he gets really into it and is improving a lot. every version of this song i've heard starts with a similar base but the people playing it do different things to add a unique touch.
