Indeed, noted feminist and lesbian author Rita Mae Brown wrote the script as a spoof of slasher movies, but they butchered her script and tried to turn it into a straight horror film. Still, I think there's enough silliness left over to prove it was intended to be a comedy. My favorite scene is when the killer crawls through the girl's bedroom window while they sit in front of it, and yet they don't see him until he's right up on them. Also amusing is the fact that the killer is like 4' 9".
