wms72 You have not understood the Creed. The term procession does not refer to the sending of the Spirit by Christ in a specific historical time as it is described in the passage you quoted. It refers to the eternal manner of existence of the Spirit. And "Proceeds from" does not mean "is sent by".
wms72: You are ... ( 1 day ago by nomust)
wms72: You are driven by a worldly spirit as your Pope is. "For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. (Hebrew 12). See who are the sons and who are not sons.
Orthodoxy was the faith of the Romans and Romans had Constantinople as their capital.
When the Franks ... ( 1 day ago by nomust)
When the Franks conquered the western part of Romanity and eventually the See of Rome, they created the heresy of Papacy introducing a series of heretical and schismatic innovations in order to present themselves as the true Christians and the true Romans and in order to alienate the western Romans from their eastern brothers. They deposed the Orthodox bishops and they imposed their clergy who were feudal lords and oppressors carrying swords causing The Reformation, and the subsequent ...

God is with those who suffer for His name as His Son suffered on the Cross and He is against those guided by their pride and those who desecrate His name through using it in order to massacre, burn and commit their atrocities. Orthodoxy will not share the heresies and the sins of Papacy. "Lay ha

And if we are to ... ( 1 day ago by nomust)
And if we are to see what happened as a sort of punishment then the reasons can not be but first, the false union in Florence and second, the heretical attitudes towards ecumenism of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the twentienth century.
The US has few ... ( 1 day ago by Lakewood86)
The US has few muslim friends in the Middle East, plus Turkey is still in the coalition supposedly fighting the 'war on terror' in Kurdistan... it would look bad if they angered them. The US loaned Turkey money in return for sending more troops to Iraq in '03- as disgusting as it may be, the genocide issue was probably a political decision.
hmm.. All I know is ... ( 1 day ago by Lakewood86)
hmm.. All I know is that those who sacked Constantinople and eventually started the Byzantine declinde and help the Muslims win unfortunately ruined any chances of reuniting the churches. The pope according to the wikipedia article on the fourth crusade said he would understand why they wouldnt want to reunite the churches after that.
If Jesus says He is ... ( 16 hours ago by wms72)
If Jesus says He is sending the Spirit, He is clearly making Himself part of the "procession process," that is clearly a mystery above and beyond our understanding. The Holy Spirit does not want the Church to split over Christians stubbornly clinging to a rigid interpretation of a mystery that we really cannot understand. The Western Church acknowledges what Jesus Himself said. Or do you want to debate that the Holy Spirit "goes forward" (proceeds) but stops somewhere unless Jesus pushes Him?
Perhaps wikipedia ... ( 15 hours ago by wms72)
Perhaps wikipedia reports truly that the pope understands why the Orthodox wouldn't want to reunite, nevertheless, Christ prayed that we be "one," and so, as adult Christians, we must do things even if we do not want to do them, don't you agree? Especially if it pleases God. Shall we hold grudges and please ourselves, or forgive and please God, and shame the devil?
If suffering is the ... ( 15 hours ago by wms72)
If suffering is the qualification to be a "son" of God, then the Moslems who endured tsunamis in Indonesia also qualify (by your misinterpretation.) The Byzantine emperor captured the pope and imprisoned him until he died. The Byzantine emperor and patriarchs were iconoclasts when the pope said to revere icons, but they destroyed them. Your icons weep around the world today! They call Orthodoxy to repentance and reunification.
St. Augustine of ... ( 15 hours ago by wms72)
St. Augustine of Hippo lived before the fall of Rome, and he said, "Where Peter is, there is the Church," referring to the Pope, the successor of Peter, as "Peter."
St. Clement of Rome, the 3rd successor of St Peter wrote a letter to the Corinthians to bring them back to true practice of the faith. He was acting as a Pope, not as "first among equals". These acts predated the Franks by centuries. You believe lies about the Western Church.
Or, perhaps the ... ( 15 hours ago by wms72)
Or, perhaps the punishment is for Orthodox priests re-consecrating their altars in Constantinople after visiting Latin priests prayed the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on those altars, before the schism. Or maybe it was because the Orthodox let all their lands fall to Islam without a fight or conversion mission to the Moslems. Or maybe it was because the eastern empire was Arian for so many centuries. Your emperors and patriarchs were Arian heretics. That is the truth. Face it.
Peter was in ... ( 12 hours ago by nomust)
Peter was in Jerusalemin Antioch and in general in many places apart from Rome. Rome by no means has the right to monopolise him. Augustine by the way was just one of the Fathers of the Church who because of his ignorance of the Greek language and unable to read the Scripture and writings of the early Fathers who wrote in their vast majority in Greek, he made many and serious blunders. I know you papaists are augustinians. We are Christians.
The union took ... ( 12 hours ago by nomust)
The union took place officially in the last monthes before the fall and the famous last liturgy in Hagia Sophia was a unionist one.
But I do not know why I respond to you because you are an utter liar. I just wish that you are merely ignorant. The East was Arian? You liar and heretic and slanderer! You obviously do not know what arianism was about and how the Nicean Creed resolved the problem that's why you added the heretical
filioque in the Creed.
Do you know what ... ( 12 hours ago by nomust)
Do you know what Hagia Sophia means you ignorant? Do you know why the metropolitan cathedral of Constantinople was named "Holy Wisdom"? That was a constant and triumphant manifestation of the divinity of Jesus and a reminder against Arianism you papal pawn.
If the procession ... ( 12 hours ago by nomust)
If the procession of the Holy Spirit is amystery beyond our comprehension why then do you tamper with it you hypocrite and you do not stick with the Scripture and the decrees of the Ecumenical Councils who defined it and prohibited any addition to it in advance?
Learn that the rendering of the Greek word John uses in his gospel as "proceeds" was not a very successful one because "proceeds" can also mean " is sent". But the Greek word does not have that meaning.
I spoke about ... ( 12 hours ago by nomust)
I spoke about sufferance for the name of Christ as the Orthodox endured the Muslim yoke in order to avoid the heretical papacy not about sufferance in general you liar once again. Rome was Orthodox, that is Christian, until the eleventh century. We have nothing against Rome and her bishop as such. Only we are against their heresies and their jesuitical practices. Read some ecclesiastical history and about the demand of Charlemagne for the addition of filioque.
Actually, Arianism ... ( 12 hours ago by kanibal0311)
Actually, Arianism was wide spread at the barbarian kingdoms which where established at the occupied western part of the Roman Empire. The creed of Nicea was the result of a synod of which all the patriarchs of the 5 holy sees where invited by Emperor Constantine the great. The creed was the final denunciation of the Arianism.
As about the ... ( 12 hours ago by nomust)
As about the epistle of Saint Clement, he never makes reference to any sort of hegemony of the bishop of Rome over the Church of Christ. He confirms that the Christians are united in Christ (and not in the supposedly successors of Peter) and he just advises the Corinthians.
True about the ... ( 11 hours ago by nomust)
True about the barbarians. And they added the filioque in the Synod of Toledo because arianism was prevalent in those places and they thought that if they present the Holy Spirit as proceeding from the Son would prove and stress the divinity of Jesus. And that because in that remote place they had not understood how the Nicean Creed did away with arianism.

Dear wms72! At the antiquity era of Roman republic and later the empire, the highest priest (pagan) was called Pontifex Maximus. This post was of political nature. This tradition has continued through the Christian era. As the western empire declined, the establishment of papacy gathers more political power, simply because there was no one else, so the pope became a head of state de facto while the remnant of the imperial authority was demarcated to the city of Ravenna.

The greatness of the Eastern Empire allowed it to discuss wide variety of ideas. These discussions were held by the contemporary scholars of the era from Alexandria to Constantinople, Beirut, Antioch, Edessa, etc. Although these discussions were not always peaceful and it involved a wide sector of the Byzantine commonwealth, it allowed freedom of thought and practice, something that the Western Europe learned to accept 1000 years later!
