WONDERFUL, powerful movie! Gregory Peck was such a gorgeous man! He MADE Atticus so very real. (So much did he bring to the character that was based on Ms. Lee's Daddy, she gave Mr. Peck her Daddy's watch - so the story goes) I wanted Atticus to be my Daddy. Then I wanted to find a man like Atticus. Hell, still do! About 10 yrs ago I finally recognized whe Boo Radley was, after seeing this movie dozens upon dozens of times! Thanks for posting! (And yes deeW422; he had a very sexy voice!)

This movie stinks. ...( 2 months ago by astrotrain21)
This movie stinks. It's lifeless, the cinematography (camera angles, etc) wouldn't even be good enough for a telemovie these days (they're almost like a sit-com), the story drags and the acting is wooden. Completely devoid of any excitement and an utter bore. I wouldn't have liked it even if I was living in the sixties. There were much better films even then. It gets labeled a classic because it examines social issues, which so often causes a film or book to get way more praise than it deserves.

Nah, it's just a complete bore (see my comment below). We had to study it in high school and it was like watching paint dry. I'm not really into courtroom thrillers but "A Time to Kill" or "A Few Good Men" rape this film, murder it, then come back to piss on its grave. People who think that this film can be compared to more recent ones have got their brains seriously clouded by nostalgia. It's strange how critics can call "Total Recall" dated but won't say anything bad about this piece of shit.

I'm not generall a fan of movies made before 1970, but "Lawrence of Arabia" was made the same year as this and absolutely craps all over it.

Yeah, can you believe how many idiots review this film today and say it's still good? The characters are obvious, there's never any doubt as to who's right and who's wrong, it's just Mr Bad and Mr Good. They don't even show the black guy getting shot, they just mention it. The angry mob scene was piss weak. The whole thing is BADLY outdated stylistically. What's the film's message, racism is bad? And why did Atticus get voted #1 film hero by the AFI? How is he better than Bond or Skywalker, etc.
Nah, it doesn't ...( 2 months ago by astrotrain21)
Nah, it doesn't have any of those. I don't know what humour you're referring to and the cinematography and acting are too outdated to allow for any sort of atmosphere, making all attempts at suspense and drama ineffective. You need to take off the rose-tinted glasses and see this film for what it really is. If you think this movie holds up to "A Time to Kill", "A Few Good Men", "Primal Fear", or basically any other good courtroom film from the past thirty years, then you're delusional.

how bout giving this movie a little respect? its a very old movie so the acting style won't quite match up to your standard everyday Nicolas Cage. If you dont have something nice to say, just dont say it.
Sheesh.
Why should I show ...( 2 months ago by astrotrain21)
Why should I show it respect? Every year, school kids around the world are made to sit through and analyse this bore of a film because it got labeled a classic, rather than being allowed to study a more enjoyable film. It's out-dated and wouldn't even have been good in the sixties. It's held in such high regard because it starred Gregory Peck, was based on a best-selling novel and takes a moral stance, not because it's a particularly good film.
i love this book
Sheesh.
