Imax HD was a concept tested but not commercially used because it was too expensive. The film would be displayed at 48 frames per second. The problem was you needed double the length of film and double the cost to produce smooth motion film.
Imax has the highest qaulity imagery available in regard to resolution and lighting latitude. Imax 70mm 15 perforated film has a measured resolution of 10 000x 7000 pixels.
regular 35mm film has equivelent of 4000+ x 2400+.
