http://www.pbs.org/frontline/everest/ FRONTLINE "Storm Over Everest," a David Breashears film coming May 13, 2008 to PBS. As darkness fell on May 10, 1996, a fast moving storm of unimaginable ferocity trapped three climbing teams high on the slopes of Mount Everest. The climbers, exhausted from their summit climb, were soon lost in darkness, in a fierce blizzard, far from the safety of High Camp at 26,000 feet. World-renowned climber and filmmaker David Breashears, who aided the rescue efforts back in 1996, now returns to Everest to tell the fuller story of what really happened on that legendary climb. Through remarkably intimate interviews with the climbers and Sherpas who survived the storm
—many who have never spoken before on American television—Breashears sheds new light on the worst climbing tragedy in Mount Everest's history.

This is a Frontline report: The only thing higher than Everest is the height of BS this piece of crap reaches. If you invest all that money to take the risk then you buy the trouble. Quit yer whining rich boy!

If you stop cursing, everyone knows what you are talking about.

I think there is no point of climbing Mount Everest, and it is just too risky and too costly. Why do people need to achieve the glory and pride out of something that does not have practical value?
And I certainly ... ( 5 months ago by HaoSci)
And I certainly don't see why FRONTLINE needs to spend its money and time on such mundane thing. I think it's better to do a report on ballooning gas price or a rising food price, or about Americans' lack of savings.

Since the dawn of recorded history with Homer's Illiad and Odyssey, poets and writers have told stories about adventurers who tested the limits of human ability. Beyond entertainment value, these stories give insight into the incredible accomplishments that people can achieve along with all faults and foibles that lead to failure. Breashears is just another participant in an ancient, popular, and important genre.

"Why do people need to achieve the glory and pride out of something that does not have practical value?" So HaoSci..no space program,no sports,no art? Frontline has more than one time slot, and there are 100s of show whining about the obvious things you mention. They can afford to rise above and speak to man's desire to push his limits, and show the beauty and savage power of our natural world. Or they could do another whiney news show.
I first just tuned ... ( 3 months ago by freddieroller)
I first just tuned into it accidentally. I was in the middle of a massive California Lottery scratcher marathon and I needed some enteraining background noise. The show replayed early the next morning and that time I sat down and watched it. I thought it was a pretty amazing story. The scope of the tragedy amd the human experiences were what drew me to this show. I could care less about the idea of trying to conquer Everest. The details are in the interviews. I can't wait to see it again.
Fact is most of you ... ( 3 months ago by sdr24)
Fact is most of you people take a much greater chance of dying just by driving out onto the interstate to work each morning than a lot of climbers take in climbing mountains. But for some reason, they're the idiots and all you are the smart ones. Right....
That is possibly ... ( 3 months ago by northcave)
That is possibly the most stupid thing I've ever heard. 90% of things in life which people do for enjoyment don't have 'practical value' be it sport, hobbies, a quiz whatever.

Pushing the boundaries and taking that extra step is what makes humans unique. Where would we be if we never pushed the envelope??
