Then you are a ... ( 6 months ago by Bleeney)
Then you are a complete idiot! A lot of the players in today's game-the Europeans in particular-would have never survived it the 70s. Very few have the stones to put up with the level of intimidation that Salming endured. He was smart, skilled and tough...he had to be. Watch any of the action from the playoffs vs. the Broad Street Bullies before you put your ignorance on display by dissing truly great players.

They might
´ve been tougher, but their skill-level was well under what players today have.
No way! Players ... ( 6 months ago by Bleeney)
No way! Players today have vastly superior equipment compared to the tube skates and heavy, restrictive pads that these guys wore. Composite sticks make everybody's shot harder. The approach to the game also has changed. Now it's all-out for a 40 second shift. In the 70s they were on the ice for 2 minutes so they paced themselves. Orr used to play 40 minutes a game.
Players today have ... ( 6 months ago by lintottish)
Players today have an over-all skill that would make Orr stand in awe looking on. He never faced anyone like Ovechkin for instance. He
´d make Orr look like the amateur he was.
Another peewee ... ( 6 months ago by 85highlander)
Another peewee dissing the hockey gods of yesteryear - those who lack any historical reference points are doomed to speak gibberish! Orr with a broomstick and skates from the 1800's would skate circles around the robots of today.
How does a 30 year ... ( 6 months ago by Bleeney)
How does a 30 year old Swede that's barely seen any NHL hockey except for the shit that's being played today become an expert on guys like Orr and Salming? I've been watching the game for 40 years. The 3 greatest offensive talents I've seen are (in any order) Orr, Gretzky and Lemieux. There's no one playing today that's in their league. Lecavalier is the NHL's leading scorer and he's nowhere near the player Lemieux was. Not even close!

That is hands down the stupidest thing I have ever read!

lintottish's comments may be the single most ignorant set of comments I've ever read on youtube on any subject. Scary stupid.

WOW.lintottish. you ... ( 6 months ago by northerncomfort99)
WOW.lintottish. you are stupid. Orr just didnt skate fast or score goals. He revolutionized the game. Before him defencemen didn't rush the puck, or score like he did. 37 goals, 102 assists + 124 for a defencemen!!! come on. Lintottish call me when forsberg scores 37 goals.
ooh ad by the way. ... ( 6 months ago by northerncomfort99)
ooh ad by the way. there is no way in hell ovechkin could beat Orr in a footrace when Orr was in his prime. NEVER EVER. Orr was better on one leg at the end of his career then the rest of the league
The Wayne Cashman ... ( 6 months ago by CorkyMuldoon)
The Wayne Cashman bout was great. He'd get in a dozen licks before his opponent realized he was left-handed.
Imagine Orr with ... ( 5 months ago by russelljdj)
Imagine Orr with the equipment they have today. Those old metal skates had to weigh 5 lbs each at least. Add in the new composite sticks. And the less invasive surgery. The NHL would have come up with rules to slow him down. Robert Gordon Orr!

Of course everyone knows Bobby didn't wear socks either..right? A Hab fan now since the f'ing Bruins traded him to Chicago..

Cashman was the B's enforcer, but I never saw Bobby lose a fight. And Magnuson never fared too well against Boston.
Habs fan here.... ... ( 4 months ago by frenchycanada)
Habs fan here....only guy who scared me was Orr...what a player, poetry on ice. The man. Couldn't understand how Boston could let him go to Chicago..but then again, if we were stupied enough to trade Roy, Edmonton trade Gretzky!!!! What a player Orr was...an a gentleman off the ice as well.
orr left boston ... ( 4 months ago by conanOtheObarbarian)
orr left boston cause of alan eagleson's shadyness. roy left cause the coach wouldnt pull him when he was having a really bad game so he was humiliated and demanded a trade, refusing to play for the canadiens. there're a few theories as to why gretzky got traded from edmonton, who knows for sure
Yeah...It was ... ( 4 months ago by frenchycanada)
Yeah...It was pretty much common knowledge that Roy and Trembley never got along and the detroit game was his 'come-uppence' for a confrontation in practice the day before...as for Gretzky, Pocklington needed the money and wanted to hand the team over to Messier [that's one theory] but how did Eagleson have the power to get Boston to trade the greatest defenceman ever? maybe to get the bigger commission from the money Orr would make playing for Chicago? Going to have to read Orr's bio..
eagleson cheated ... ( 4 months ago by hockeybooks)
eagleson cheated orr one last time , in the move from bruiins to hawks cuz boston owners offered him 15% of the team but eagle couldnt get a piece of that so engineered long term deal with "dollar" bill wirtz with chunk of the signing bonus lining the convicted fraudster, expelled from Hockey Hall of Fame & removed from the Order Of Canada but only months served in a country club " jail"
