this is the most exciting performance of this piece I've heard. I love those sudden volume shifts, explosions and textures and and joy of running your fingers up and down the keyboard reminiscent of Horowitz at his most inspired.

Congrat on recital, Sandro. I like the agogig and leggelo of left hand accompany, which make this piece sounds more brilliant as the name shows. It is also amazing that you get this repeating song never bored.

Hmmm. I have not heard this Chopin piece played quite this way. Could it be because it was played as if it were Liszt's? It sounds very brilliant indeed. But there seems to be a sense of melancholy in every Chopin piece. I have to conclude that if that element is removed, it would not sound like Chopin.

What is disturbing about such observations is that most likely you don't even know what Liszt should sound like...
Anything "brilliant" reminds you of Liszt??!! Why don't you listen to Russo's elegance of his playing or his fine rubato to think there is the finest Chopin in that Polonaise?

Not everything brilliant reminds me of Liszt, but the way he does those runs reminds me of the Liszt pieces that I have heard on CDs.

Mr. Russo's playing also reminds me of Earl Wild, a well-known Liszt player, who played this same Chopin piece, (whose video used to be available on YouTube). Again, his Liszt-like runs shine the most, more than his Chopin moments.

Absolutely brilliant! I grew up with the music of Chopin in Poland and have been to numerous Chopin recitals in Lazienki park in Warsaw but this wonderful performance is the best. There is wonderful virtuosity and so much heart and sensitivity at the same time.
