Why do you feel HDV is a terrible format? From what I've seen, it's an excellent low-cost option. My main complaint with it is it does require a lot of hard drive space.

if you're talking to me, i dont think its a terrible format, just not as easy to use as mini-dv... if you want terrible, thats an SD card.... those things make me sick

I agree with you on SD cards... bad news. I had been using 1-chip mini-DV, considered buying a 3-chip & rented one locally... didn't think it was much better. I bought an HDV & I'm totally impressed with the quality, but at 1GB per minute will eat a hard drive for lunch. I'd have no complaints if I had unlimited storage. I can't get my mini-DV SD to look anywhere near my mini-DV HDV... even when processed by YT, they just look so much better.

I love how he never explains the problem with tapes. Mini DV is actually much better video quality. If you want proper non-tape formats then you want something like the P2 cards which Panasonic uses to record HD.

If you are running a PC i would suggest Adobe Premiere for editing. Also for more advanced green/blue screen stuff i would suggest Adobe After Effects. After Effects is used by professionals

it runs on tape but it has an output jack that goes to composite yellow red white cables so i baught a device for my computer that has those input jacks and it came with some software to record the input from the device this means i can take my vcr and put my movies on to dvd rather than those pesky vhs tapes

i agree, memory cards and camcorders DO NOT mix unless its panasonic p2 cards which is the ONLY time its acceptable to use a memory card, and about hdv you are right, it is harder to work with but if that is going to stop you, you can stick to filming birthdays and vacations

I'm still anxious to see new generations of hard drive cameras. I own 2 JVC Everios and they are super handy. You basically pull the files off like it's a hard drive. Indoor picture isn't great, but with lighting it is just as good as any hi8.

I don't really think you'll be able to get a quality picture from these types of cameras. Right off the bat, they are compressed to be able to drag the files into your computer, then you edit, export, and compress some more. It's a compression orgy!

im suprised on how IndyMogul let down minidv, it is great with editing, has great quality, and has great size, it is great! i think that IndyMogul should more likely recommend minidv.
