Ernie was a friend of mine -- an eclectic and gifted man. He was a jazz musician -- he blew with Dexter Gordon -- and he wrote several books including a coming-of-age novel ZACHARY that is a small classic. He turned into a live action director after he won this Oscar -- DYNAMITE CHICKEN with Richard Pryor (and John Lennon!) might be his most known work. I personally think he should have stayed an independent -- he eventually ended by directing HAWAII FIVE-O's and TV movies, and teaching film.

My personal opinion is that this video isn't funny at all, but kinda irritating.
I have no idea why this is classified as comedy.
also, I wanna know why not liking something that everyone else likes is considered such an offensive crime. Anyone who attacks me simply because I don't like the video, or mel brooks, is a nazi. i'm allowed to have an opinion too!!! WHY AM I NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE AN OPINION?! Calm down, they aren't attacking you. I've been criticized on YouTube for disliking things too, and I responded with calm humor and everyone felt better. Preemptive name calling will just make things worse. This film really has to be seen in context. If you've ever paid money to see an Malcolm McLaren film without warning, this is the EXACT reaction. I don't dislike McLaren's work, but come on you got to give me more warning than a brown picture of his face, and nothing on the film itself...

Ok- I'm only responding because your question seems sincere. Maybe what you're "missing" is identification. If you can identify with the character in "The Critic" (he's your grandfather, your uncle) then you appreciate it because he has nailed the character so perfectly. The art is in the perfection.
Just as great art should evoke an emotional response, this evokes the emotional resposnse of remembering people from your past. If you didn't have these people, or love these people, it "misses".
