I love his ability to create riff after riffs that are amazingly catchy or beautifully melodic. His technical ability is dwarfed by other guitarists like Steve Vai, Steve Morse, Marty Friedman, etc, but you'd be hard pressed to find a guitarist that can match Satriani in terms of creativity combined with tasteful soloing with great phrasing and excellent feel. That's what I love about him, you could give me a guitarist who can play a million notes per minute, and I would choose Satch every time.

I dont know enough about friedman to say, but I think Satch is technically more talented than Vai, as well as more talented musically. If you watch any covers of vai's, like red house, you find he is completely uncomfortable with different genres. He slaughtered several songs that he covered with satch, EJ, and petrucci at G3.

Satch is MUCH more listenable than any other shred-rock virtuoso. I'd be reluctant to say that his technical ability is "dwarfed" by *anyone*; when people like Vai refer to Satch as the best "in the world," they're not just being polite, even if they exaggerate a touch. I think Satch is so compulsively melodic he just likes to stay in the groove, rather than emitting dense clouds of educated gnat-notes.
