Ron Paul took an opportunity during the PBS Republican Presidential Debates, moderated by Tavis Smiley, to call for end to the Drug War.
"Prohibition didn't work and prohibition on drugs hasn't worked either." Ron Paul cited the unfair disparity in the percentage of blacks imprisoned over drug offenses in proportion with the relative percentage of black drug users, giving example to the system's racial bias. Paul also noted the m
oney wasted on the so-called 'War on Drugs' since the 70s when it's clear that drug use and prison capacity has only swelled in wake of the profit driven motives of the "war."

I think I've found ... ( 1 week ago by WelfareRobot)
I think I've found the first issue where I disagree with Ron. If, as he's reasoning, DNA evidence is now showing that people were previously wrongly convicted - does that not show that the DNA evidence is a much more reliable means of showing guilt as well as innocence? And, therefore, that we can now, with much greater assurance, know that the person we're executing is indeed guilty?
I've always been ... ( 1 week ago by KillerInstinct2006)
I've always been someone who's supported the death penalty, but a few years back through a teacher of mine and through some personal research, I realized that it's actually cheaper to send someone to prison for life with no possibilities of parole, than to sentence them to the death penalty.
I still support the death penalty, but I think it should definitely be used very sparingly and only for the most heinous of crimes in which the victims family wants to see the death penalty carried out.
That relies on the ... ( 1 week ago by WelfareRobot)
That relies on the accuracy of the data; I don't believe it's accurate. It costs $25,000 to imprison someone per year, and this, of course, is all taxpayer money. I wish I could get $25,000 per year out of the taxpayer to go towards my living expenses! If the application of the death penalty is indeed prohibitively expensive, we'd have to examine why. I'm sure part of it is lax appeal law and taxpayer-provided lawyers (which, since they're subsidized, would increase cost).
You can look it up. ... ( 1 week ago by KillerInstinct2006)
You can look it up. I was surprised when I first heard about it too, but it's true. There are lots of evidence, research and studies to support my claims.

That certainly depends on WHICH data you're looking at. Bottom line: Govt. funded/supported data is in conflict with free/independent academia research. Imagine that.
That's nice, hippie ... ( 4 days ago by WelfareRobot)
That's nice, hippie woman. Perhaps we should institute a cost-based analysis for every social problem, ignoring all social justice aspects? Assuming your premise is true (that execution is somehow more costly than the million dollars or more spent on a lifetime prisoner), we should just let murderers live? What is it in people that compels them to advocate for the most violent, evil people in our society? At the same time, I bet you also think it's a wonderful "right" to abort fetuses.
I hear ya. If all ... ( 1 day ago by filmjoyce)
I hear ya. If all Americans knew that Ron Paul predicted all of this financial BS and also how he stands for truth for ALL Americans and not just the rich and 2 power parties he could take voters away from both McCain/Obama. But ignorance is bliss and I think unfortunately America will be stuck in the abyss for some time. I'm writing RonPaul in on my ballot!
First of all, idiot ... ( 19 hours ago by blaziermissy)
First of all, idiot, I'm not a hippie. Are you a mf? Second of all, if you weren't so brainwashed, you'd be more open-minded enough to STUDY death penalty. I agree with Ron Paul, too many mistakes made and you're likely to be poor and black if you get the d.p. Screw you, I oppose it. WE are not a "GOD." Study up. I bet you weren't aware rich ride on the backs of the poor. NO? Of course not.

Also, if I want to smoke a blunt after a hard stressful work week it's my damn business! The government needs to keep their nose out of my friggin' business.
