The most difficult phase of the whole process has to be right after surgery. It hurt really bad and I felt so helpless. I couldn't speak, eat, breathe, move, nothing. I am just really glad I had some family with me to take care of me. My mom really made recovery go a lot smoother.

Im goin to have a similar surgery, except that only one of my jaw will be moved. I met w/ my surgeon once, and he did some minor measurements. I didnt ask him about potential long term complications. Do you know if there are any. By the way, thanks for all your insightful replies.
Best, B

None that I know of... but I am sure there might be some . If anything, I have only heard of the benefits of moving your jaw(s) into proper alignment. I used to grind my teeth a lot at night in the past. My teeth weren't aligned and didn't fit together well. Ever since the surgery, my teeth fit together nice. It's easier to speak, chew, breath, and I haven't grinded my teeth once yet at night.

I want to get jaw surgery but more for aesthetic purposes. My dental archs are a bit too narrow and I'd like them to be wider and to get my jaw and cheekbones to look larger as well. I also have a bit of jaw clicking.

The jaw surgery did NOT hurt for me.
I had lower jaw surgery for my underbite about 4 years ago... and I'm now going to get UPPER jaw surgery pretty soon because I had a relapse and my lower jaw grew back a little bit.
How fun.

i had lower jaw surgery for my overbite 3 days ago and depending on age, pain threshhold and such, varies the pain.
i am in alot of pain atm, but thats me. 3 days after the operation i still have no feeling sensation in my ching and lower lip. i am msot definately still of pain relief, mainly panadeine and havnt eaten anything yet. the swelling is tremendous though, atm i look a bit like a bowling ball, but i guess its personal choice, if ur not happy with ur jaw, then go for it
