American cinema these days pale in direction, stage design, costume and passion when compared to this esquisite movie. If only more effort were put into US movies such as this, maybe I would start watching them again...

Yes it is. The novel was written by the incredible Sarat Chandra Chatterjee. There have been many bengali adaptations but the first Hindi one was penned by the great Bimol Roy whi is another bengali from Bangladesh and is the record hoder of 7 best director filmfare. Sanjay's Devdas though visually appealing but is extremely inaccurate.

"Urdu basically uses the structure of Hindi" -- absolutely untrue. Urdu branches off from Farsi or Persian and makes a dialect that is very distinct from Farsi. Hindi on the other hand takes its root from Sanskrit. Infact all the northern languages branch from Sanskrit while the Southern from Dravidian. Sankrit vs Farsi are two very fifferent things. Though they might sound the same conversationally you can distinguish the difference in words. Urdu is much more peotically enhanced.

That's not true you can't say that Urdu is an entirely different language b/c like Hindi it's a mixed language. So the two borrow from each other. I'm sure if I heard some Farsi, I would probably not understand it at all whereas if (and I have) heard Urdu, I would unterstand most of it, and I have never learned Urdu, I speak Hindi.

Your arguement is ridiculous, the ancetors of the Muslim invaders have been living in India for more than 500 years, it would be impossible for them not to have adopted some of the language. And vice versa, although let's not for get Farsi is a foriegn language so it is likley that it was more influenced by Hindi than the other way around.

Many words from Urdu comes from Farsi. They might not sound hte same b/e each party pronounces it quite differently. Look up urdu then talk about who is ridiculous. Its an indo-Iranian language branching predominantly from persian. How would you explain the Parsi community in Inida who are originally from Iran and from the Zoarestrian faith. Please if I were you I would do some research before utter anything else that is ridiculous.
