Okay, let me restate: Were they or were they not big into drugs? I just find it insulting to music when bands rely on drug related experiences or "acid trips" to inspire their music. There are great bands like Between The Buried And Me who (I think most of them) are straight edge and they are more creative than 80% of the bands out there. Just a question, please take no offense.

No, I am in NO WAY saying straight edge bands are more creative. I'm saying I feel pride when a band is amazingly talented and progressive (such as between The Buried And Me)and more than half the members don't need drugs for inspiration. That is all I am saying. No hating, just an opinion.

I think it's just you. If you need to be on drugs to write music it just means you have fuck all creativity when you're not high. I hate when people do that, hear a trippy song or a wacky song like a mr. bungle or something and they go "wow, I bet they were on drugs when they wrote that" - You don't need to be high to write a stoner song or a song that sounds like fucking circus music.
