Before I begin, let me just say that's not my real laugh, it's just an imitation of the desperate laugh of an abused toady.
Anyway, Opinionated Voyager Episode Guide takes a look at Cathexis, another Brannon Braga episode. I haven't been deliberately seeking out Brannon Braga stuff to bash, he just wrote so many of the episodes -and so many bad stories- that it's hard not to hit a Braga script. This one is about a memb
er of the crew being taken over by an alien, a plot that has been done so many times its cliche, but don't worry, we'll also swipe some stuff from the TNG one where Picard's disembodied consciousness slips through the ship and makes a P appear. We also see some frightening things about how the ship
is constantly scanning your brain and everyone wanting to do a scan likely to cause them to bleed from the ears. Oh, and see how Voyager cleverly responds to threats by hampering their ability to do their job.

How can you make a map with a medicine wheel? And where did he GET it if his ship blew up? There are so many plot wholes in Voyager, and you seem to find them all. Good job!!

One where the Vulcan had the upper-hand, or another plot hole? I remember another fight in a desert on Vulcan where Archer easily disarms and disables a Vulcan soldier.

seriously?!?! electromagnetic radiation? that's dumber than the crack in the event horizon: sensors being 'blinded' by LIGHT.....worst writing ever
EM radiation also ... ( 3 months ago by NecrosisOfLight)
EM radiation also includes radio, micro, and infrared waves. And those can be used to jam RADAR equitment. RADAR works by bouncing radio waves off objects, then measuring how quick they return. Jamming then, is sending lots of random waves at the reciever, and tricking it into not knowing which are it's own. Thus preventing it from doing much
The real question is why in the hell this would effect Voyager's sensors, which are not based on any part of the EM spectrum but rather use subspace.

the part about janeway in the holodeck could have been interesting IF it was going somewhere. we never got to see what was in the locked door on the second floor, making all those episodes where it was mentioned totally pointless

The purpose of the ... ( 1 month ago by Ndirsc2)
The purpose of the opening scene is to set the mysterious tone/mood of the episode. A very similar thing was done with the TNG episode "Clues," which also starts out in the holodeck. I don't see why this is such a problem (but I agree that the lighting was a bit too dark in this episode). Basically, "Cathexis" was meant to be an ensemble piece with everyone trying to uncover the nature of the mystery. I'd say it's decent entertainment but very silly. But aren't all of these episodes silly?
And am I the only ... ( 1 month ago by Ndirsc2)
And am I the only who is very tired of Star Trek episodes about hostile energy life forms who want to take over our bodies? It's a very cheap plot device. I mean, these aliens desperately need to find a new hobby. As forgettable as "Cathexis" is, the Enterprise episode "The Crossing," which is basically the same exact concept, is worse and almost unbearable.
