Yeah, yeah, I know it's just fiction but at one time so were computers and cell phones. As someone who served in an infantry unit in the army I believe the concept behind the smartgun will actually reduce the chance of excess casuality or collateral damage since the weapon automatically tracks and targets for the shooter. However, it'll still requires the shooter to decide to fire or not after a target has been acquired. This feature will prevent a "spray & pray" approach to its use.

I agree with totally...people need to remember that many of the things we have today were science fiction at one point in time...our imagination and inventiveness is superior...and many "science fiction" technologies will one day be reality. Another cool invention, as a veteran infantryman myself, would like to see is along the lines of the Space Marine Body Armor or suit. OBVIOUSLY not that "big" or bulky...but definitly "full body" protection...totally enclosed suit.

I wasn't refering to actual "Space Marines"...I was refering to their "suits"...if you were in the infantry...you should know that OUR well-being was more bought cheaply. Our body armor always went with the cheapest. I guess that's how we value an infantrymans life. I propose a change...if we designed "space marines suits" our casualties would be FAR less...at least when considering we are the most technologocal power. You can talk about "not killing", I would rather talk about "saving lives".
