Dr. John Breeding, Ph.D. Psychologist, talks about depression. In this video he discusses the how psychology and psychiatry differ from their approach to depression. Is depression really a chemical imbalance in the brain or a psychological problem? Often time people are given antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin.
SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are often promoted as correcting chemical imbalances in the brain but there is no proof that depression or mental illness is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain nor is there any proof that antidepressants correct an imbalance. These medications
often time have horrible side effects like agitation and sexual dysfunction. This is a different view of depression. In this video Dr. Breeding will discuss tips on how to recover from depression, become a more happy person. Visit Dr. Breedings website at http://www.wildestcolts.com This

I can appreciate your standing on drugs but I have a question that is serious although it may sound ridiculous. I am seeing a pyscologist next week through my insurance provider. I have dealt with depression for some time now ( in and out ) but I have noticed the biggest difference since I stopped smoking marijuana daily. I still smoke occasionally, and it is really the only time I feel better. Is this just in my head? Would it be a bad thing to mention when I go in to get assessed? Thanks, greg

I was the same. I started smoking weed almost everyday for a year. And that year was one of the best years I had had for a while. But then my depression caught up on me again and smoking weed made it worse. So I knew I had to stop and sort the problem out some other way. I have not tried anti depressants but it sounds like there side affects are a lot worse than smoking weed. If your not where you won't to be in life you may need to put it down. It depends on the person I suppose.
There are just too ... ( 1 month ago by chado2423)
There are just too many THEORIES about depression and not enough EVIDENCE of EFFECTIVE TREATMENTS. Even these vidoes kick into the THEORY that Depression is "energy" based. Seems a little holistic rather than scientific to me.
Well, conventional ... ( 1 month ago by psychetruth)
Well, conventional medicine has failed to identify a cause for depression or come up with an effective cure for depression. Part of the problem I think is that science hasn't taken a holistic enough approach to depression. For instance, there are several known causes of depression which include, thyroid problems, emotional loss, certain drugs are known to cause to depression, certain nutrient deficiencies can cause depression and sometime depression is just an appropriate emotional response.
Unless you identity ... ( 1 month ago by psychetruth)
Unless you identity the actual source of the depression and treat the cause, you can not cure it. But, why bother to cure it when you can make 40 billion dollars a year off numbing the symptoms with antidepressants? The monetary incentive is not to cure depression because the drug industry would literally lose 40 billion dollars a year if someone did widely publicize effective cures.
Great video. I ... ( 1 month ago by hollywoodartchick)
Great video. I agree with everything. I was on a forum for people who were depressed, and most of them really just needed to move away from an abusive family member, get a better paying job, and otherwise find hope that their lives could get better. But instead, they were given drugs, which made it more impossible to get out of depressing circumstances.
