You wrote: 'Derren memorised the pages in the dictionary and the other book and subliminally guided the librarian to ask him exactly those pages'. I am the librarian. He didn't guide me, sublimnally or otherwise. He just used old-fashioned 'magic' tricks, as I explained elsewhere in the comments to this discussion.I
played along as it was fun. Reinhard

He said it was photoreading. It's a commerical reading technique. You can learn to do it too but Derren and obviously practised it a lot because it doesn't get that good without lots of practise.

After reading his books i simply believe this is a trick.
The books are so full of settings, and ideas for magic tricks, that he tries to create a certain atmosphere.
but i dont think he has photographic memory.
i fact the books reveals he is more magician in his sows than one would expect

this could easily be done with a hidden overhead camera and a hidden earpiece. the man is sitting exactly in the same place for the second book. Derrens next book maybe 'how i fooled the nation..'

Hi. It may be the librarian is colluding with Derren. It may also be there is a spy looking from a high vantage point through a camera with a zoom function. Is either so hard to do? All they violate is the integrity of television. People can memorize things quickly, but I would rule these out first.

Oh, and the spy ...( 1 week ago by bockerse)
Oh, and the spy would be communicating via a small radio device in Derren's ear. If you think TV studios couldn't afford such a trick (or to pay a fake librarian which sort of seems more disappointing in a weird way) you underestimate high ratings.

Perhaps the book ...( 1 week ago by Xwoom)
Perhaps the book consists of 5-20 pages repeating themselves again and again. And the pagenumber with column number is a code for what the word might be. Why? Because if he was a genius he wouldn't need to do these stuff. Instead go and get yourself a nobel prize.
Xwoom: Your ...( 1 week ago by rw1Han2)
Xwoom: Your explanation is much too complicated. Derren uses the so-called 'book trick' which (for learning the OED 'by heart' in 20 minutes) involves inviting the 'subject' before the show to write down page and line from a genuine copy of the OED ('so that you don't change your mind') on a prepared clipboard which then gives Derren the page and number for the chosen word, and at the same time allows for cameras and screens to be primed for the 'reading' from the second 'random' book. In his book Tricks ...( 2 days ago by BruceHalter)
In his book Tricks of mind, Derren explains that photoreading is scam, I don't understand why he says he uses this technique(he never said he uses something that he thought is scam, for all I know - all remember cold reading, he never said it's real psychic power)
BruceHalter: This ...( 2 days ago by rw1Han2)
BruceHalter: This video was shot in 2001 when Derren still used tricks like 'photographic memory' - he has since changed his approach and pretends to be a sceptic. But as befits a magician-performer he still uses deception, misdirection etc. In this video he uses standard tricks (eg the 'book test') and also clever video editing techniques. What you see in the video is not all that happened, as I outlined elsewhere. His 'explanations' of some tricks are often part of the deception. Reinhard

I agree completely, some are so willing to believe anything DB says(in regard to the situation being genuine)..because he's so clever, professional, on T.V.and now has a big reputation.
