Well let's see....$499 in 1983 money, tracking CPI say at an average of 4% p.a over 25 years that would make the commodore 64 the equivalent of costing $1,000 in todays money. What a piece of shit and i pestered dad for one of these pieces of crap, my god, he was right after all.

I am sure you can rig something up, but those casettes sucked. It was really shitty to spend all the time to write a program just to have the tape f*ck up on you and only realize you lost the program when you try to load it up. If I would have seen a flash drive back then I think I would have shit myself and cursed you for bringing the devil's magic.

You also need to compare what $499 (I think this is australian dollar. I remember it being cheaper, but I was in the US) would get you in computing back then. At that time the only real competition in terms of computers were the Atari 400 or 800. The other alternatives pricewise, but inferior, in the same ballpark were TRS 80s, and TI-994a. The Apple 2s, or the IBMs at that time that that even came close to the Commodore 64 would cost you like 5 to 10 times what the C64 cost.

hahah, most computers don't even come with floppy disks. Although you can still get glorified cassette tapes machines to do your backups for really big computers (goode old Tape Backups). But, those are very reliable.

According to official RBA figures, the cost is $1241 - however still surprising considering basic computers in the mid 90s were costing more than $3000 ($4000 today)

They are very reliable. They are intended to be used on tape drives with excellent, precise speed, this ensures 100% data is written then the tapes need to be stored in rooms with no magnets etc. A big process to store data, but, it's got to be done.

it was the 80's then, it was state of the art! I bet if you were in the point of view of people from then you'd think it was amazing! I mean, I have a powerful, and new computer and I still think that DOS computers and commodore 64 are great!

in 25 years, we'll be able to buy the computers we use now for only a few bucks! but these old computers will be vintage, and probably will end up worth a lot of money, so if you have one, save it!

I had sex with my Commodore once. The electricity between us was immense. In fact, I ended up in intensive care for 6 months and had my cock amputated to boot. Fond, fond memories.
