You should hear her purr and call the kitties...I've got to record that. She even sings the meow mix song!

Sheesh...my two brats wont do that. They're more interested in taking chunks out of fingers. But they do various sounds: farts (yeah), warble, scream like the kids when they're running around the house, and do "KOKO!" off of Fosters cartoon, of course really good kisses too. Lol
Is she really hard to train?

It takes time, patience and band aids. Quakers are nippy to begin with--even when they are well-trained they nip. Having Aunt Nancy visit and laugh in person helps too ;-) Praise and reward good behavior, ignore bad (which is hard when they have a hold of your flesh). Also a dozen or so "Step up"s a day establishes some discipline. Google "quaker Mattie Sue Athan" and you will find some on line info and link to her book which is great. Good luck with your little devils!

Im about to get a bird and I dont know whether to get a quaker or a cockatiel. Someone Help!!! I hear that cockatiels are good whistlers and dont bite that much and like to be cuddled while quakers are good at learning tricks and talking but bite alot and can become territorial. I want to make sure that that is true. Please reply back, thx : )

That could be right....I don't have experience with Coocktiels but I do with quakers and they are entertaining and challenging! Quakers do like to be cuddled, too.

Our Quaker says "Hey, baby"..."step up"..."meow"...some great laughs too. He will be nippy with males, not females. If he's nippy, leave him alone for awhile and all is well

I have had both. My first was a Quaker, great talker, fun, funny, very involved, more variety in their diet (meaning they can eat from the table more for "real" food as opposed to dry, they do get angry with their person, mineliked to be tick'ed, and loved a good head rub, hugs/kisses (giving and receiving).
My cockatiel was ... ( 1 year ago by gemini1904)
My cockatiel was female, she whistled, but so did my quaker. He wistled more. Cockatiels are pretty quiet. I did get her to say hi, hello, thank you, and dottie (her name). She liked to be on your shoulder, rubbed only lightly along her back. but she was sweet and cute. Quakers are very loud. It depends on what you want.

I got five cockatiels and one young QP. The tiels bite, the QP, Pepe, does not. Lots of fun. I tried him not to bite. Whenever he would get rambunctious and start bite him I would say "No" and tapping on the beak...after a while he stopped. I would not trade him for anything. QPs crave attention. A lot

Hi, I am a new quaker owner. Any more info u can give me would be greatly appreciated. When i take her out of the cage, she wont leave me alone. Wants to be held constantly and can get nippy for no reason. also when should i expect her to begin speaking.

I would say, get used to it. They are like children, they want your attention when you get home from work. My Quaker loves physical contact and expects to be held. She will chirp with increasing ferosity until I let her out of her cage. Recently she has laid eggs (sterile) and has gotten nippy, bitey, and territorial. I would have to say, every parrot owner is going to get bitten from time to time, if you can't live with it, you probably should get rid of the bird now.

I was in the same boat you were not too long ago, I ended up getting a quaker and I have never regretted it. My quaker has an amazing vocabulary speaking full sentences and loves to be cuddled. It is easy for them to become one or two person birds if they are not socialized enough as a baby, but mine will pretty much cuddle up to just about anyone. Cockateils are nice birds also, but you may not have as much as a vocabulary with them. Plus, quakers are really soft and fuzzy!
