The Most Advanced Quadruped Robot on Earth
BigDog is the alpha male of the Boston Dynamics family of robots. It is a quadruped robot that walks, runs, and climbs on rough terrain and carries heavy loads. BigDog is powered by a gasoline engine that drives a hydraulic actuation system. BigDog's legs are articulated like an animal's, and have compliant elements that absorb shock and recycle energy from one step to the next. BigDog is the size of a large dog or small mule, measuring 1 meter long, 0.7 meters tall and 75 kg weight.

Can a robot not have to use radio controled equipment and use laser controled robots.When a robot part needs to recieve info for the next movement a laser cell picks up the signal via a laser being shined on the its solar cell area,and then based on were laser shined on. Determines which solar cell part will move,Of course the robot would be in the dark other wise the sun light would interfere.If used in space the robot would be in the dark or on the dark side moon.Mile capability,under H2O 10"

it's just a prototype for reaserch and shit, once they finish the reaserch they can build something that isnt so useless using the knowlage they obtained testing this prototype, this prototype isnt suposed to cary heavy stuff or or look pretty and they will not give it to soldiers, it's just the first step towords the final product

Even radio signals wouldn't really be used for this. Almost everything is WIFI and satellite now. Radio signals can be intercepted. The robot would be vulnerable to tampering. All someone would have to do is find the right frequency and send signals of their own to mess with it. Like how pretty much anyone can pick up chatter on the emergency frequencies. It's illegal to do, but anyone can transmit on them as well.

humming is probably because they are using a cheap power source. At least it is not inherently noisy like a helicopter. better motors/power source will fix this. from an engineering perspective this is much like the helicopter as it was invented in WWII but didn't become popular till small jet turbines were used rather than piston engines.

Its funny they have an all terain vehicle on 4 legs. I wonder how It would react to a bomb going off near it. It would be more of a pain than its worth in war. Maybe It can find lost mountain hikers. How about hiking with it as a pack carrier down the Grand Canyon. What about cliffs? Can it sense those?

Any time you can control a robot either through laser or enfared even radio control,no cords will have to be usefull somewere. If you are able to set up a technique of shining a laser on the solar energy cell on a device and the laser supplies enough energy to make a fuse box powered by it.( or Device reads the laser adjustment of a device good things will happen) Anything that uses less or no electric cord you are moving in the right direction/
