To npierluissi. First, it's not a song. Second, it was written by Johann Sebastian Bach who was born in 1685. And of course it's not guitar rock music. It's baroque harpsichord music. Perhaps you've somehow intermingled the rock musician Sebastian Bach with the music in this video somehow.

....that's not what fugue means. a fugue is a song with a theme stated by different instrumentation successively--its a melody in rounds. in other words, the different instruments take turns playing the same theme, sometimes overlapping.

Well technically, it's more appropriate to call it a piece than song. Us composers like to feel sophisticated (hehehe jk), but besides that, what you describe is very close to a fugue - a canon or round. A fugue is a round that has a specific form. First the subject of the fugue (main melody) is stated, then that voice goes into a counterpoint of subject and another voice plays the subject up a perfect fourth (maybe fifth, I can't remember) and so on through the voices.

What immediately comes to my mind is, Why? Why are they butchering a beautiful piece of music.
Oh yeah, I forgot. Profit. Apparently the masses will actually pay to hear this crap.
Carry on, soldiers!

I've seen these guys live, I've heard them in recording, I've performed with them.
They are good players, and they definitely have found a niche in the market.
It's just that I find all the clowning around tedious. I wish they would leave the comedy to the comedians, jazz to the real jazz musici ans, and play what they should be playing, the plethora of great brass quintet music designed for their instrumentation.
I don't like the cornball sideshow stuff.

why is it tedious? it is more clever than anything. after 306 ratings this video has an average rating of 5 stars and meanwhile noone is strapping down your limbs, clothes-pinning your eyes open and forcing you to watch.

The only thing more tedious than the video is your argument. If you consider these jackasses "more clever than anything", then you really need some intensive therapy.
No professional comedian would consider this stuff funny, and no respected musician would consider this good music. It's certainl y not jazz (remember jazz is improvised).
The reason this stuff is popular is because it NEVER challenges the listener. This isn't music, it's MARKETING.

Here's an example of how spurious this crap is. Listen to Dr. Chuck Dallenbach (Tuba player) farting on his mouthpiece, trying to emulate a bass line.
Now tell me, have you ever heard a jazz bass player play an idiotic bass line like that? I mean, playing on the mouthpiece is bad enough. Jesus!
Pick any respected bass player's performance and actually listen to what makes a good bass line. And Chuck, that goes for you too.

At 38 seconds, the trombonist states that the notes weren't changed, just the rhythm. Well any jazz musician can tell you that jazz musicians don't write out the actual rhythm. The Fake Book is mostly quarter and eighth notes. BUT, jazz musicians know how to play it properly.
So if the notes weren't changed, why did anyone have to write out the rhythm. All you have to do is play the rhythms in a swing style.
This is pseudo-education from a group that's just interested in amassing profit.

Some advice to all hopeful musicians on YouTube:
Part of being a successful musician is being able to separate QUALITY from CRAP. This stuff is loved by non-musicianss because the masses can sit there and switch off their brain. If you want to fine tune your ear, listen to the truly great brass quintet groups like Philip Jones, American Brass Qu intet and New York Brass Quintet.
Best of Luck!

canadian brass does make music sound great!..
as long as u can enjoy the music, thats fair enough.. u dont have to give ur 'isaac newton's theory' here out of arrogance, just to critise canadian brass...

When Andre Previn (you've heard of him right??) came to the US he went to a jazz club and thought jazz was a viable art form. So he learned it and made a number of great recoordings with a trio, but still conducts orchestras and plays classical piano.
What he didn't do was say, "Hey, I can dress up in a clown outfit, tell some stale jokes, and play some cornball swing music. That way I won't have to actually learn to play jazz, and the ignorant masses will love me."
It's time to wake up.
