Pretty sad to watch ...( 3 months ago by allitwantedbythunder)
Pretty sad to watch this knowing that her "friend, father, buddy" would fail to visit her on her deathbed five years later because he thought she'd bring him down. What a fun guy Billy Eckstine must have been.

Reminds me of how Billie Holiday and Lester Young were when they passed. The last time they saw each other was the Fine and Mellow performance.

Thanks for explaining, bcperry1962. The world would be a better place without those people. The world was not created to be pretty for them.

Billy Ecstine spoke about it in a filmed interview and said pretty much the same thing bcperry1962 says: he didn't want to have to remember her in that condition.

Well I understand, but how sad. We need to remember it's not about US during those times it's about the one dying! Can you imagine how Sarah must have felt. It's funny I still have the video of this clip above; I must watch this a couple times of year, the entire show was beyond great. Sarah is my favorite singer of all time, but I'll never watch this clip agian without feeling that...thing...thinking how she must have felt. Then again...they both at peace now and probably singing in the clouds.

She's not celebrated enough. In our history books (in America) we hear only about Ella Fitzgerald and a few other Jazz/Blues great of the African American world. Nothing about Sarah Vaughan. When I first heard her several years ago, I thought it was a great crime. I still do... Sarah LIVES!

I don't think it had anything to do with the color of these womens skin. Although Ella was in love and did have a semi quiet relationship with a Caucasian man that was seen but not spoken about. He did help propell her into a sort of permanant history. But I feel the lack of attention by the Big record companies left Sarah in the back seat. Due to Ella's connections she had someone to speak/fight for her during those times.
