May be you are right....everyone has his own ideas,thoughts, but ARR is probably the only music director from south who has made it big in north inspite of so much resistance from north, wherein even maestro Ilayaraja could not succeed.
Probably he is the only MD who sells cassettes purely on his name today. you may think that it is very ordinary stuff he unleashes every time but it sells surely...

A.R.Rahman is an icon who got national award for his very Ist film ROJA in early 90s.That too at an age of 16.
Since then almost for 17 years he's been very consistent.
He has done his work in Bollywood,Hollywood & even chinese movies.If u say he doesn't know music then u mean all these people are fools to book him for their million dollar projects?

AR RAHMAN lost his father at the age of 9, joined Illaiyaraja's team at age 11, attended Trinity college of Music till the age of 21 or 22, rejoined Illaiyaraja till 25. He started out with ManiRatnam in 1991 at age 26 with a western classical degree in Music from Trinity college.
And winning a national award is not about talent. It is more than you all think.
