If you project a cube out from every point you dont get another cube. You don't actually get a shape that has any angles at all. In exactly the same way if you project a 2d square out from every point (2 demensionally) the corners are curves.

So you see there is a perfect quarter circle at the apex where the two sides meet. What you're missing is the fact that your assumptions about the thickness of 2 dimensional objects is based on your experience with representations of 2d objects. Since we live in a 3d world, every thing we do (including creating representations of 2d space) is done in 3d. For the record, since Sagan made this we have discovered that there are actually 11 spacial dimensions and one time dimension that we know of (see M theory)
