I agree with your first comment. They murmur as soon as he speaks because they think his voice is sexy. The Aretha thing is abit blown out of proportion, but she did use the word "even" which implies that she wouldn't normally want to kiss him but she was so happy it doesn't matter. So it was a slight put down and she realised straight away how it must've sounded and tried to make it right.
