So this is 'International Coperation' is it, you sit around and argue about who did the most work on the space station.
I'm happy that 'you Americans' are going beond earths orbit, but let me tell you - hardly anyone even cares.
It would be interesting to see how the ISS goes without progress supply ships too, wouldn't it.
Just get over it.

That's actually pretty funny. Nice one.

To woalbe: The USS is deqad after the shuttle fleet retires in 2010. The Russians can barely get 2 Soyuz missions up a year, and the Europeans, they are just laughable and not a real player in space. Likewise, the Chinese are barred from ISS participation.

The ISS is dead after 2010.
I do not understand ... ( 1 month ago by woalbe)
I do not understand what your problem is. All nations participating in the ISS program have fulfilled what they agreed to.
I think all nations involved have benifited from each other's involvment in the ISS.
I don't think the ISS would be as good as it is if the USA had done it alone.
And to make it clear - I do think that the USA is the greatest space faring nation on earth. I just don't think that arguing over who contributed more helps anyone. USA included.
To woalbe: Perhaps ... ( 1 month ago by YogaNate79)
To woalbe: Perhaps the international community should pay for their fair share by financing more of the project and build their own shuttles to claim their stake in the ISS.
Greatest space faring nation? I hope you're not referring to Roskosmos because they've done nothing of significance in the last 30 years. Russia's space ambitions have failed in comparison to NASA.
You are laughable. ... ( 1 month ago by djaih)
You are laughable. American, European, Russian, Japanese technologies and money go in there. It's a collaborative effort, hence the name. Typical, basic American mentality to downplay the effort put forth by other nations. Yes, we all know the USA are leading. Who cares? Certainly not the people who build this and live there, they are a lot more open-minded and prefer not to lower themselves to your position.
If you read the ... ( 1 month ago by woalbe)
If you read the comment I was clearly referring to USA.
If the USA doesn't wan't or isn't happy with the involvement in the ISS, why are they involved?
What are you so upset about? And please read the comments more thouroughly before embarrasing yourself.
Just relax - it's just a space station.
To woalbe: The USA ... ( 1 month ago by YogaNate79)
To woalbe: The USA has barred other countries from having involvement in the USS. The People's Republic of China asked permission to be included in the project, and the US State Department and NASA barred China from access to the ISS.

Are they allowed to have pets on the space station? Or is it just research and seriousness?

Not quite what Werner von Braun and disney had in mind back in '56 (OMG _50_ years ago!), but pretty close!

The earth isn't ... ( 1 month ago by JackJ1957)
The earth isn't overpopulated, it is grossly mismanaged. All of the nearly 7 billion men, women & children on earth would fit shoulder to shoulder in a space the size of a small U.S. county. There is a big die-off coming, however, but it won't involve spaying or neutering anyone (Revelation 16-19).

I'm in favour of space *exploration*, but this isn't "exploration". It's orbital height is about same as distance from NY to Washington DC. The ISS is doing nothing that wasn't done by the Skylab & Salyut in the '70s (~35 years ago!) and it is a deception to say ISS is a stepping stone to anywhere, it's just $100bn worth of pointlessness.

ISS has been a justification for using the space shuttle.
But at least it's quite a good technologic demonstrator for future, larger and more complex space platform. The experience is unique
