With Art Blakey and the All Star Jazz Messengers, 1984. (Benny Golson, Curtis Fuller, Walter Davis Jr, Buster Williams)
Hub works up to and holds a spectacular high note at the end - it's a must-see.
Even jazz greats like Freddie Hubbard read sheet music during a performance. haha. I love Freddie!

I really love his style of trumpet playing along with woody shaw's who unfortunately is dead. It's so much better than marsalis's jazz he's a great classical player but all the jazz he plays sounds like a box of stale crackers.

I saw this piece as a more slow and graceful ballad, since it's a tribute. But nonetheless I love Freddie's style and how he speeds it up and adds such an awesome fast pace swing, then changes back to a laid-back tune. Great player. LOVE his style as well.

OK fine, you start out by paying homage to the great Freddie, but then like most people on Youtube, end up sounding like a complete idiot when you talk shit about Wynton.

I would have agreed with you about Wynton at one point, but only out of ignorance; Freddie and Woody are something else, no doubt, and I rate them above Wynton, but he is a jazz player through and through, and a pretty amazing technician at that.

I very much doubt that FH had to read anything in playing this standard. My guess is that the music stand is there for other pieces. but ha-ha from me, too!

Clifford is still a reference, but the emotion is over (in 1984)
