Everything you see after Tim Robbins gets stabbed in the jungle is a hallucination in his final minutes before death. It represents his mind's unwillingness to accept death, and so he sees monsters tearing his life apart. But once he accepts his fate, everything becomes peaceful and he finally moves on to rejoin his dead son.

this film is simular the short story by ambrose beirce called incident at something or another I cant remember exact name but basicly this dude died on the operating table in nam and while he lay dying there everything you see in the film was going on in his head until the moment he died
