Extract from "The century of the self" by Adam Curtis. Story behind the coup d'etat which toppled elected president Jacobo Arbenz in Guatemala in 1954. The film explains how Edward Bernays, recruited by United Fruits, created the conditions for a government intervention. Mass media were successfully used for manipulating the public and generating consensus around a military action involving the CIA.

Same story, different country! As a citizen of the U.S., I'm saddened to see the suffering inflicted upon the oppressed. What the U.S. powerful elitists have done to your country, they now do to our own. Bush, Rove, Cheney, Pearl, Wolfowitz, are puppets of the gluttonous, murderous corwards-the elite. The elitist call themselves American. With their power and money no loyalty is shown to nothing. Out to make the planet their own under the guise of spreading democracy.

we had almost 40 years of civil war as a consequence of that US intervention, we are still suffering social problems because of that stupid civil war (poverty, lack of infrastructure, a high rate of emigration and so on)....anyway what is done is done, hope this never happen again
