Excellent. A beautiful performance, very sensitive and very personal.

strangely, I find the very beginning to be the hardest to play. It is so bare that you have to perfectly voice every note. It's fine if you are used to the piano, but on one you are not used to it can be very difficult to make it sound right.
I'd say the most technically challenging part is the bit from 2:45 to 2:47. Those two seconds are such a pain.

yes that leggierissimo volante and velocissimo passage seems quite technically demanding especially since its not octaves the pianist must divide his/her mind in half. ive seen that in a lot of his music so im thinking thats probably something that Liszt was good at.

Exceptional performance of one of the most beautiful pieces Liszt ever wrote, showing that Marc-Andr é Hamelin is much more than a mere virtuoso. Thanks for the post!

and to cromola94, i think the best way to practice dexerity and to prevent you from tripping over is to practice your arpeggio scales more often, and at a fast tempo too. That's how i managed to play this piece in a fairly speedy pace, but not as fast as Hamelin though

Not even with a super grand technique, as the strings don't resonate right unless tuned by a good tuner, and second of all, the tone of a concert grand actually produces creates different sounds. The felt hammers are soft so that one can play notes as though they're not individual notes, but rather just a flow.
Look at Brendel's Schubert, Op. 90, No. 3. No average piano could produce a sound similar to that, nor this.
