Healthcare is the single most important issue in the 2008 election. United States is the only Western industrialized nation with out universal healthcare. The private sector is not stable enough for healthcare. Our own health is at stake here. Kucinich is the only canidate who coauthored the HR 676 bill, a bill that was supposed to lead to a more healthier and prosperous America through single-payer, universal healthcare.

Diabetes is an autoimmune disease. My partner ate well and exercised, her diabetes was caused by a virus, in all probability. It may have been caused by an on the job injury, where she slid down the pole at training and several wooden splinters entered her abdomen. We do not it was not caused by diet or lack of exercise. It was only diagnosed when her body went into a state of diabetic ketoacidosis. She nearly died. I think we all need affordable insurance.

I am afraid what you are saying makes no sense at all, except that part about diabetes being an autoimmune disease...at least Type I is. However, splinters in the abdomen is really not legit...seems to me someone is looking for a worker's comp settlement.

The human body is an unbelievably complex and interactive organism. The foolishness of believing that you can CHOOSE how your body will next fail and what treatment will be required means that you would be further ahead conducting seances the reading blogs. But the private insurance industry and many employers have created this euphemism as a way of tricking people into believing that CHOICE is a major element in selecting healthcare. It can be a factor in avoiding healthcare though.

If we refuse treatment, we end up paying more because untreated people end up sicker. Untreated people walk around spreading germs. Finally, one of the untreated might be taking up your spot in the ER just when you need it most with their darned preventable but all-too-real emergencies. You don't get diabetes from infection. Though infection may have unmasked the condition, it would eventually have presented itself. Do you even know what diabetes is? I have spent plenty of time studying medicine and assure you that infection does not cause diabetes.

The point of all of this is that no person should be financially responsible for any other person, which is exactly what universal care would be. I have seen enough medicine to know that very few people are denied care they need. Most of the "free care" provided in this country goes to the same people who use welfare, have no jobs, and spend their time reproducing rather than looking for gainful employment. Normal, hard-working people pay for these "victims" you are all so keen on insuring.

Most of the care--free or not--goes to old people in the last two years of life whether they have been rich or poor, employed or slacking, fat or fit. You pay taxes for things that everyone uses, regardless of circumstances--roads, police, fire, sanitation, courts, parks, schools, libraries, and much more. It makes sense to pay less for healthcare that you will inevitably use, too. Sharing the risk and pooling resources is the only way to mitigate healthcare costs.
