i think its a great sound. it really fills the song in the absence of the other non-band instruments

thats bullshit! who told you that? the clash learned as they went but paul picked it up really fast. look at other performances of this song from the time he is playing it.

considering KURT cobain was 13 when this came out and this isn't really punk (but still brilliant) im guessing you have no idea what youre talking about
well the fact that ...( 3 days ago by marsharse)
well the fact that Paul wasn't there during the actual recording of the song in the studio is a dead give away and laos the fact he admitted he wasn't playing the original bass track on the song and then of course mick jones stated it aswell as topper. If you want to know where I read all these statements it was in "Passion is a fashion" by Paul Gilbert he interviewd every member of the clash about the history of the band.

lol I just like to look up info on bands I like and I recomend reading passion is a fashion lot of good info in it and some good answers from the bands especially Joe.
i read piaf ages ...( 3 days ago by codnose)
i read piaf ages ago and Redemption song (a far better book) more recently and i dont recall that info but you seem to know. i just love the clash and hate to think they were fake at all! i love this album and i thought i knew a lot about it.
ah no I wasn't ...( 3 days ago by marsharse)
ah no I wasn't saying they were fake its just during that whole period Paul and Topper were off making a film and stuff so alot of stuff on the sandinista album isn't actually Paul or Topper playing but it is the parts they wrote. You are the first person I have ever seen say they love sandinista I personally think its a terrible album lol. And if you want to know Norman Watt-Roy played the bass on the recorded version of this song :)
If you want to get ...( 3 days ago by NoDiceAssclown)
If you want to get into specifics, Norman Watt-Roy was the bass player on all the songs Paul wasnt present for on Sandinsta!
norman watt roy is ...( 3 days ago by codnose)
norman watt roy is a fine bassist! am i really the first? i know lots of people who love that album. the shear amount of music on it is impressive on its own and it has got some shit on it but the high points (Mag 7, Something about England ,Junco partner, crooked beat, one more time lightning strikes police on my back, washington bullets, charlie dont surf broadway the call up the leader the equaliser look here rebel waltz) are the clash at their very best. which albums do you like then?
I find Sandinista ...( 3 days ago by marsharse)
I find Sandinista to be their "what the hell do we wanna do period" they were experimenting alot with different musical styles and trying new things which im all for but they didn't quite know how to do it. for me I love Give em Enough Rope just think it has some of their best songs like safe european home, all the young punks and Stay Free. Every1 says London Calling is their best I think its a great album not a bad song on it but I wouldn't say its their best sounds too perfect for me lol.
london calling is ...( 3 days ago by codnose)
london calling is just there best album undisputed. Youre the first person ive met who likes geer. i hate that album, they just sound so bored. sandinista has so much life in it they succeed in creating something totally original by using such an eclectic mix of influences that its hard to spot individual ones.
See I like geer ...( 3 days ago by marsharse)
See I like geer because it stil sounds like the Clash nothing added just what they had available gutair drums bass and vocals and there are good sounding catchy songs. But sandinista is full of alot of songs and in my pinions its mostly bad mixed with the ocasional good song. I actually think that if they took the good songs off Sandinista they would have had a good 10 track album but I havn't heard the album in so long I dunno what good songs are on it (I don't own it borrowed it)
Buy it and learn to ...( 3 days ago by codnose)
Buy it and learn to appreciate the boundries they were pushing even if the music isn't actually that great. it's like gin & tonic you have to learn to like it.
give 'em enough rope is just very dodgey to me (or rather not dodgey enough) because it's a solid album but they take no risks which is what i love about the clash the fact that they are anything but safe.
P.S. you cant say that that one clash song sounds more like the clash then another because surely they dictate what they sound like.
Well yes but The ...( 3 days ago by marsharse)
Well yes but The Clash became popular for being a punk band and give em enough rope sounds more like a punk album than sandinista plus the Clash had their own sound even then which you hear clearly on the first two albums. But with Sandinista they experimented more because they had just been to New York and heard alot of new stuff to them and they got interested and strayed from their original sound to try and form a new one which u later hear on combat rock and done much better than sandinista
Sandinista! is the ...( 3 days ago by codnose)
Sandinista! is the clash creating their sound instead of (joe admits this himself) just copying the pistols. the songs carry the clashes powerful political views by mixing black and white music a beautiful piece of work as it has a unifying effect and fuck how they became popular! but i guess i love it because it helped me realise that rock music is not the only kind.
Combat Rock is a very strange album every song is like each member of the band is playing a different song!
Well the Clash ...( 3 days ago by marsharse)
Well the Clash never did copy the pistols to a whole I mean ok both bands were about image mostly but the Clash actually had music to back them up the Pistols although good weren't as talented. But with The Clash although they were punk they didn't sound like other punk bands you can tell the difference right away because they always had their own sound and it did carry through every album but sandinista is by far their worst because they tried to do something they didn't know how too soon.
actually cut the ...( 3 days ago by codnose)
actually cut the crap is the worst and the clash peaked when they began to experiment (London Calling). GEER is so contrary to their message cos it sounds like led zeppelin and such like it's boring old hard rock again and the quality of the songs is awful and they have no depth, whereas sandinista has a lot of depth but the songs aren't good either. their first album is the best punk album but let's be honest, punk was a hugely important movement but the quality was very rarely good.
Ah God I try not to ...( 3 days ago by marsharse)
Ah God I try not to think of Cut the Crap fuck Bernie Rhodes and fuck Joe for letting Bernie write songs. But thats my point it was punk but it was Clash punk it actually sounded good and had structure. Geer sounds nothing like old rock its a bit poppier with stuff like stay free but the songs are all about things that have happened to them. I never liked the album till I listened to it properly and I found alot of interesting little things in itjust the drums and bass little things mostly addup
then you will love ...( 3 days ago by codnose)
then you will love sandinista! when you get to know it. i hated it the first time i heard it and i was gonna take it back but my dad made me listen to it longer and now it's my favourite. GEER was the first one i got and for some reason it just bores me; Sandinista! is anything but boring. i like tommy gun though. they just came so close to becoming a charicature of themselves. saved by going in a diffrent direction.
