I just did. Pretty much all his critics were fundamentalists, Cranks such as Velikovsky, astrologers, etc. His main "critics" in the scientific world just didn't like him bringing science to a wide audience. And if you weren't referring to this series, what were you referring to? Please point to where he claimed as fact what science had not established yet?

Hmm, astrology IS a science actually.
It can be measured and prooved.
Just because it dosen't have a 100% accuracy rate does not make it invalid.
Anyway, nice thoughts you had about your earlier post about a happy future.
This show is just ... ( 1 month ago by devonherrington)
This show is just perfect, real facts, compelling proof, and a flair of complex and magical language, I just hope that there are more documentaries like this being made by anybody on youtube, anyone?

To a certain extent you are correct- astrology is falsifiable and has been falsified. I just wasn't sure what you were referring to about Sagan making claims outside science, so I did your search suggestion. I found some websites from fundamentalists, a Velikovsky site (yes, he still has fans), and some others. I didn't find any criticisms of him making any non-scientific claims.

It's the fact that its accuracy is exactly as good as random guessing that makes it not qualify as science.
Thanks for taking ... ( 1 month ago by hedegaard8)
Thanks for taking the liberty of doing some searching. I was very sceptical about astrology, until I spent numerous years searching for the falsity and truth to it.
I think the failure rate of astrology will ensure that there are countless people against it, and the merits of astrology also support a strong "fan base".
Had as much time been used on the study into astrology as there has been into the science of medicine, there would be even more truth revealed, be it positive or negative.
"Random guessing" ... ( 1 month ago by hedegaard8)
"Random guessing" only works if the clients/subject know very little about themselves or are easily persuaded. However it can be measured on other aspects, not just human psychology.
Sure, there are discrepancies, but there is also an equal amount of doubt and uncertainty when it comes to astronomy or even the medical fields.
Being unsure of something, should lead to investigation, not discarding in ignorance.
What I disaprove ... ( 1 month ago by hedegaard8)
What I disaprove about Carl Sagan, is that hes written off astrology as a "myth" WITHOUT making any serious case studies or investigations. That to me sounds sad, as astrology could have benefitted from his knowledge that he could have integrated into astrology.
Just because you don't personally believe in something, does not make you right when you dispew opinions as factual. (talking generally, not about you or your comments :) )

sorry, pals, but astrology IS fake, and will always be, because it has always been.

At this moment, I'd like to point out that James Randi will be genuinely happy to give you one million dollars if you can show that astrology works. That said, I question whether you actually watched Cosmos, where he presents actual points as to why astrology is ridiculous... But, to me, the most important fact supporting that is that astrology requires human-centrism - which is always a retarded concept.

Agreed, there is just no proof. I don't trust my life to the sky, just my big ol' brain, that's it. Can anyone give me proof, thought so.

Thats not true and you're just saying that from heresay, which makes it an opinion and not factual.
Tell me, why is it ... ( 1 month ago by hedegaard8)
Tell me, why is it that everyone else has to prove things to YOU? Why don't you stop being so lazy and go do your OWN research and then after a few years, come back and THEN say that you've disproved it.
The problem here is that you base your opinion on what other people think&feel, not on actual hard work and research which would make your statement scientific.
Yes, there is one ... ( 1 month ago by hedegaard8)
Yes, there is one guy on here (YouTube) that proves scientifically the discourse and dissection of different religious beliefs.
I forgot his name, sorry, but try search along the lines of; "science religion prove" e.t.c

do you get how disrespectful and indecent it is to talk about astrology on a astronomy/biology video?
the radioation, energy flow and gravital forces from my coffe cup have way much bigger effects on my life then the stars.. (exept the sun ofc)

Discussing Astrology as if it was real science in a Cosmos clip is like talking about scat while watching an Opera.
Anybody who has ... ( 3 weeks ago by arizonaresident1)
Anybody who has read Carl Sagan will be able to tell you he probably knows more about religion and Astronomy than you. If you educate yourself in science, study things in an open mind (rather than being closed minded and hope what you want to be true is), you will not believe in astrology. I don't need to study Egyption religion or Incan religion to know ther gods are nothing by myth. I know that by common sense.

I don't know how any human being, regardless of superstition or magic thinking, can not be moved by this. I love the fact that the earth is so ancient and the universe so vast. It's mind-boggling and beautiful. It's great just to marvel at the whole thing. Sagan was the ultimate agent provocateur.

It's ironic that he describes humans as creatures that "live for 70 years" and he only made it to 62. A tremendous loss to humanity. We miss you Carl.
