I dunno. I admire her for taking a risk because her freestyle is so different from ones from seasons past. They're usually fast paced and set to crowd-pleasing music. I think this dance was just too cool or "now" for the demographic of people who call in and vote for Dancing with the Stars. I think people expected something more like Drew Lachey or Joey Fatone's freestyle.

Also, I think it hurt her that it took like a loooong time for the dance to really get started. Watch it again. It took 30 seconds before she really started to dance. And when she did dance, the energy level wasn't there. I think Helio danced worse than Mel all season. He knew he couldn't beat her on technique, so he aimed to please the crowd with a lot of flash.

It is obvious that the lack of rehearsal time hurt this number. Mel was working 18 hour days by this point and had to go over 3 dances for DWTS and 20 songs and dances for the Spice Girls. Couple that with Maks having a back injury and this being a risky number to start with and this is the result. I love Mel and this was pretty hip, but it was a bit rough.
