The main issue is the leash, many people are religious about always attaching a leash and most of them don't know what they are talking about. 1. always use leash on c kite, on a bow you canget away without one 2. always try to choose an empty beach with noone around an
d low wind. then you dont need a leash. if wind is strong or there are people you need a leash. 3. leash on a bow is complicated and dangerous. make sure you test out landing the kite on a leash if you do decide to use it before going out. understand what is a suicide configuration and why is it cal
led so. it is actually the only configuration on 4 line kite that makes sure leash stays attached when one line breaks, for back line leash you basically have 50/50 chance. If you have to pull the red thing in an emergency leash will prevent the kite from flying into people on the beach and killing

Guys, I did not take any kind of lessons, I just started flying small 2 line kites years ago, I know very well how the kite flyes and how the wind window works. I bought myself a Cabrinha 12m & 17m Element, yes, It's a 2005 C-Kite. And I learned how to kitesurf with no problem. Just dont go for the first time with higher than 9 m/s wind. And dont launch downwind, but from angle. The pioneers of this sport did not take any kind of lessons, so why do I have to if I can use common sense?

First Point: YOU MUST TAKE LESSONS to safely kiteboard! I cannot say this enough. You must do this. DO NOT kiteboard without taking lessons.
Second Point: You have to spend money to get into this sport and do it safely. Lessons are completely necessary and in the lessons, you learn all of the safety stuff you need to keep from getting yourself HURT or KILLED and you learn how to avoid HURTING or KILLING people on the beach.

Yeah sure... whatever you say dude... I can send you some pictures of me where I learned kitesurfing all on my own, and even got waterstart with board for the first time, eventhough it was only about 2 meters. So I'm concludiing: I MUST NOT TAKE LESSONS. Just be catious and use common sense!

Why dont you buy a small 1m
² kite and try that one out before you buy a 12m² kite. In this way you will learn how the kite acts in the wind.

yes, you can do that to but i don't recommend it. and in that case, what does a 1m2 kite cost, maybe it better to lay the money on a lession instead. but i'm not gonna make your decision for you. just be really careful. however, kiting is a great sport that i think everyone should experience! ;P

You gotta take lessons....After about 12 hours you should be able to go solo and body drag...Use the youtube videos for reference so you don't have to pay the instructor again.... Can't wait to go out again this weekend! I love my kite....

I can buy a 1m2 kite for like 10 - 20 euros in the local supermarket. Its no big deal! I bet I couldnt get kite lessons for that money!

Good video, however I disagree about skipping lessons as they'll start you off with smaller kites building up to one that size. Also helmet, buoyancy aid and insurance could be added to the shopping list. That said this is a good recap for anyone learning.

basically the first 10 kts of winds are used up to keep the kite flying, it doesnt actually matter much what size of kite you use at 7kts, they all barely fly, bigger kites might not fly at all. now any wind after 10kts is used to pull you so 20kts of wind will feel about 5 times stronger than 12kts.
