Albert used a phase shifter. Yes - Stevie could play exactly like Albert but he had so much more. His style was influenced by Albert, BB, Freddy, Buddy, Eric, Lonnie Mack, Jimi and Jazz guys like Kenny Burrell, Grant Green Wes Montgomery, Django Rhienardt and much more. He forged his own instantly recognizable style. Nobody can truly copt him or his monster tone. Albert hated when people stole his licks - except for Stevie. Albert called him the only white boy with a black daddy.

Does anyone remember the Benson & Hedges Blues Festival that invaded NYC each year in the late 80s? We're talking B. B. King, John Lee Hooker, Koko Taylor, Etta James, Albert King and Albert "Frozen Alive" Collins. Those were the days. It all seemed to fall apart when we lost too many of these blues giants in the early 90s: Stevie, Albert Collins, and of coure the King of the blues Albert King. We miss you!!!
