She admitted in an interview it was abortions. She is a feminist, but I think she still mourns. Abortion is terribly sad and traumatic for all parties involved. Even miscarriages are horrifying.

There was a joke doing the rounds a few years ago around the time that Sin éad had asked what's wrong with abortion as she had had two of them. This was after her first child was born and Beirut was still off the tourist trail. The joke went "what's the difference between Sinéad O'Connors womb and Beirut?". The answer: "You've more than a 1 in 3 chance of getting out ali ve from Beirut". I wonder if the joke was where she got the idea from for this song.

This song reminds me of my mother being told by a team of medical specialists that she only had 6 months to live when I was 3 years old. She prayed to God to let her live because she could think of no one else who could raise her children. I am 40 years old now. And my mother is still alive.
I didn't know about Sinead's abortions. It doesn't take away my respect for her talent. Nor does it erase my emotions for this song.

What an offensive comment! The real (and sad) joke is that still there are people out there that can't understand that a woman's body is no one else's. This song is about her strenght in adversity, and it's all the more beautiful because of that.

I'm not trying to settle a debate here, but please don't oversimplify the abortion argument.

Well, I can't think of a bigger oversimplification than that offensive "joke." Only she can know what it really means to go through that experience--and as the song makes clear, it's not a laughing matter. In the face of such courage one should refrain from passing judgement.

Millions of Would Be Fathers, proud Fathers to be have never seen their children. Men have NO RIGHTS and that is something we must change. If you are 1/2 the reason for bringing life to this world, you should have 1/2 the voice. Fathers are parents too. They can even LOVE. No shit. All I'm saying is give Father's a chance.
