Interesting, I didn't think it highlighted any such thing, but well done on admitting you have an agenda. To me it looked like a badly edited but otherwise perfectly sensible conversation, quite a breath of fresh air. Where did you get the original video? Or could you post the whole thing? I'm interested in watching the rest.

Admitting you have an agenda, sensible conversation, a breath of fresh air.

Would you like to try and formulate a sentence that makes sense?
"get out more"
I'm not sitting around editing together videos of people I don't like. I came to this video because I saw "Atheist visions Craig Venter", and I'm interested in atheism and the future of our planet.
As for the first statement I don't understand what you mean, you seem to have misunderstood my point. Maybe you're saying I've contradicted myself? I don't see how, please explain yourself?

yes i think i made it clear, you accused me of having an agenda, I watched a debate on genes and biology and was disturbed by some of the anti religious debate/overtones that is all i'm showing if you dont like that fine, you know freedom of speech, democracy and all that.
I am a staunch secularist and a biologist i was a fan of Venter but these two together really do worry me I hope this gives you some answers. i dont like Dawkins at all, hes bad for biology and atheism imo.

I didn't accuse you of having an agenda "johnclavis" did, I simply stated that you then admitted to having an agenda when you said:
"i'm agnostic only highlighting some sad Fundy Atheists"
and
"some bigots in Science"
and when I re-read the title...
"Fundie Atheism in Biology"
Obviously you think because you're an agnostic that you can't have an agenda.
I was simply saying that, if you had an agenda, you failed to present it, because I thought the conversation sounded sensible.

i chose to keep it as impartial as possible but their future intentions, agendas and worldview are made pretty clear in this video imo Lj
The statement ".. ...( 3 months ago by HimmuraTube)
The statement "..Fundie Atheism.." is an oxymoron. By definition fundamentalism means you wouldn't change your mind about something no matter what reason or evidence is provided that contradicts your beliefs. I don't think any atheists or scientists (at least not the good ones) are fundamentalists because you can change their minds fairly easily...just show them some evidence to support your claims and ideas.

Agreed - atheism is not at all complicated, and therefore cannot have fundamentalists. The statement 'there is no such thing as God' simply Is fundamenta: there is nothing more to it.

What the fuck is fundie atheism and what did this video have to do with it? In order to have fundamentalism, you have to have fundamentals. Atheism is a rejection of a claim. It does not make claims of its own. What fundamentals of atheism are there to be fundamentalist about?
Biologists are also usually 'fundamentalist' tooth fairy rejectors. How is this a problem?

The chopped up edits in this video make it impossible to understand what the speakers are actually saying. It would be great to see the talk in full or in part, but this is unwatchable.

he's not really a drug researcher, you fucking imbecile, he plays with random GMO's and stuff
Somebody else will find a "drug" against cancer, this moron will only destroy the planet with his shit!

Yes I know, I was just making a point. He could very well find a useful drug out of his crazy experiments, those things happen in biology. Even if he finds microorganisms that produce energy for us to consume he would still do a great good to the world as soon as his microbes won't destroy it,first, of course.
People like you are dangerous, you may stop a research which could save humanity from its addiction to oil even before it is proven to be dangerous, what's your point apart from paranoia?

I'm not against research, if you haven't noticed, I'm against greed and random irresponsible experiments on our planet and civilization
Did you know that the GMO's left the lab already? they are in food and in nature (Hawaii: /watch?v=zQDOdnRBLqc)
In my opinion, if this guy wants money from his giant evil greedy company, then he should be regulated and restricted. They already did irreversible random manipulations on some species. I heard his philosophy, and I think that he's extremely dangerous
I was never against ...( 1 month ago by Stevehtegreatgr)
I was never against strict control, especially against controversial experiments like that of Venter but to stop him altogether is something very different and completely unnecessary. That was the point in which I protested against, from that point onwards I'm with you he should not be left to manufacture and sale untested products which can put our civilization or the environment in peril.....
When did I say that ...( 1 month ago by semiliteratedgod)
When did I say that I want "stop him altogether"??
I have nothing against basic scientific research, in labs. Everybody does this. But Venter crossed the line, he owns a huge company and he's lobbying for proliferation of his shit and deregulations. You can't distinguished GMO's from other food in US, and they push for deregulations in EU too (and everywhere in the World), through WTO and other organization.
Self-righteous greedy messianic irresponsible assholes like him are dangerous.

There ARE severe regulations and restrictions. Gene modified foods go through years of trials before they enter consumer markets.
EVERYTHING we eat at this point is a result of artificial selection over 1000s of years in human agriculture. Genetic engineering can actually let us do this safer(by adding killer genes to prevent breeding in the wild).

Nobody knows what happens during the further mutations of the bacteria/mixed genes...
And how about freedom of choice for the consumer? I don't want them to do experiments on me, Ok?
They grow wildly in Hawaii arbitrary GMO's, without any restrictions: /watch?v=zQDOdnRBLqc.
And look, the drug industry produces enough dangerous meds (which are stable molecules, no further mutations!) following a similar scheme of approval. Many had been recognized later as life-threatening.
