My husband Jared, aka JabMedia, made this video for me and my subscribers. Since we animated the icon on my channel last night, a number of people have written asking how to do this. We sent out several emails explaining the process before Jared had the brain storm to paste the emails text on to a video explaining how to do it, so here both are:
Ok, first thing is to make a .gif file of what you want. I took a small section of one of my song videos which I cut and than saved as a .mpeg in my video editing program, sony vegas. You than open that file in a .gif creation program, I use Animation Shop 3. It asks how you want to import the frames when you open it, select make 1 frame for every 10 to decrease the size of the file. You than have to adjust the frame playback rate to 20 1/100'ths of a second to compensate for the 1 frame out of every 10. Change the animation size to 130x96 and than save the file as a .gif with the quality settings set to the lowest level. Basically you need to make sure that the size of your .gif is the required 130x96 and that the total file size when done is under 100Kb, mine is 56Kb. Than you go into your "Edit Channel" settings and than into "Personal Profile" select "upload a image" and up load it as it asks you to. It says that it will take up to 6 hours for the new image to appear as your channel icon, it took less than a minute for mine to occur. Hope this helps. Have a excellent day my friends!! - peacedriven : )

Selecting that item gives you the following: "YouTube doesn't allow animated GIFs to be uploaded as your Profile Picture. Please try uploading a non-animated GIF, JPG, BMP, or PNG file instead."
i uploaded a new icon and it says 88x88 and 256kb.
