The ground roll ... ( 1 month ago by RobertGary1)
The ground roll required of an A36 for these conditions was about 1/2 of what the runway offered. We are still waiting on the NTSB report.

The temp was not 107F. In anycase I took off not long before this at gross without problem. I didn't know the pilot personally but I did know both back seat passengers.

Guess best to leave the back seat flying until the NTSB have done their job. Sorry for your loss.
A family of five ... ( 1 month ago by WillABQ)
A family of five were killed taking off this past summer in a Cessna 206 on a hot high density altitude afternoon in Tucumcari NM. They were on vacation from CA enroute to Chicago.Stopped for fuel in NM. Very sad...

anyone got news on what the cause of this accident was?

Probably the plane hitting the ground.

That is, but at ... ( 3 weeks ago by DantehMan)
That is, but at least they all kicked it together. Seriously, if I got in an accident and lost any number of my family members (mom, dad, bro, or sis), I'd be horribly upset, especially if I was orphaned.
The family you are ... ( 3 weeks ago by kingair81r)
The family you are talking about was from Gilbert Arizona 25 miles from me. There was one surviving family member their 22 yo daughter who stayed home because of work. Very sad. Her 2 sisters one brother and parents were killed.

Aviation is being run by greedy assholes!!dont fucking flying when the is wind!!plain and simple!!!
Array ( 3 weeks ago by simonborn)
afaik it
´s always the pilot´s decision to fly or not. also, the winds seem light to me judging from what can be seen on the video. also maybe, the pilot should have taken off into the wind.

What version of the AFM are you looking at that calls for flaps?
-Robert, CFII
Cause is still ... ( 3 weeks ago by RobertGary1)
Cause is still unknown and under investigation by the NTSB. We do know that the airplane needed only 1/2 the available runway according to the book. I took off right before him at (at gross too). I can tell you it was hot but no 107F like the FD claimed.
These Small General ... ( 2 weeks ago by tealmarlin)
These Small General Aviation airplanes taking off dont need Flaps (for Normal takeoffs) Iv taken off Hundreds of times without flaps. My guess is that He did not take off into the wind. Pilot with 400 hours Loged in the C172

You can see that windshear from the other runway pushing the plane down... It is obvious

Look at the way the branches were blowing... that was no tail wind. And for small planes like that, you don't necessarily need flaps to take-off.
Plus, when the gear ... ( 1 week ago by Gage2k5)
Plus, when the gear is retracting on a Bonanza, gear doors come down and creates more drag. I it is best to leave gear down at low airspeeds.
yeah especially ... ( 1 week ago by Transam941)
yeah especially with a 172, I used to fly a 182 but due to fuel costs I am now flying a Gobosh 700. I never used flaps in a 182, then again I had a big airport to play on. Only time I used flaps was for a touch and go on a grass strip. 30 degrees of flaps, and 59 for approach speed. Density altitude for you. Stupid pilot for not looking at his performance charts. Maybe he thought his "complex" Bonanza would save his ass when it comes to performance.
One of the ... ( 1 week ago by Transam941)
One of the witnesses said it was sputtering. Maybe he incorrectly set the mixture? Who knows for sure yet.
Full load, high ... ( 1 week ago by mqbitsko)
Full load, high density altitude...not a good combination. But it still should have made it, unless he was way overweight. It almost had to be an engine performance issue. I suspect he didn't do a proper engine run-up, and the mixture was set incorrectly. I'd be easy to have it WAY too rich at a high density altitude. When I fly, I never run full rich. If this guy wasn't used to the altitude that would be a very easy mistake to make. But I'm just guessing, of course.

They showed this ... ( 4 days ago by av8er152)
They showed this video at the FAA safety meeting I attended recently. The aircraft was loaded with 4 people, plus 200+ lbs of baggage in the back with full fuel. Aircraft was over gross weight, even if the density altitude would have been low.
And the NTSB says: ... ( 3 days ago by gettinghosed)
And the NTSB says:
The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The airplane's sudden encounter with a wind shift during the initial takeoff climb that resulted in degraded climb performance and a stall mush condition. Contributing to the accident was the airplane's over gross weight condition, high density altitude, the pilot's inability to compensate for the
sudden wind shift, and rising terrain in the departure path.
