but what develops fighting instincts? obviously the way you are taught to fight. the true human fighting instinct is to wail away like little children, which is what you see when two untrained people fight. training overcomes this and replaces our inbred instincts with effective ones. of course, there are factors such as the ability to stay calm, but these can all be developed through proper training - thus, the proper style.

if i had a nickel for all the people who said this... and then got taken down, bill gates would be my chaffeur. you have to realize, grapplers designed takedowns... to take down people who try to resist them. they thought of every possible form of resistance, then figured out a surefire way to overcome it. good has nothing to do with it. to avoid being taken down, *learn* how to avoid being taken down.

lol, this is not even the real kung-fu, go to the search bar in youtube, type shaolin monk vs karote or tae kwon do, and thats what kung-fu is all about. i am a black belt in TKD, but it's prety useless in a real fight. just couple month ago i got into a fight, and almost lost it, the only reason i won it's because i am really fit,( probably because of the TKD, that's 1 thing good about TKD and karote) 2 bad i cant learn kung-fu here in US...
