Doug Clifford's drum style(including traditional grip single stroke rolls and 18" hi-hats) is very important to the CCR sound. even though john played all the other stuff.

I think you are absolutely right. Doug keeps them all together and his groove is unwavering. Him and tom and Stu allow john to go off and do his solo stuff. they were together for like ten years before they got famous you know.
