This type of living is still around in North Georgia. Believe me, I've seen it.
Oh, I believe you. ...( 2 months ago by ziegfeldgrrl)
Oh, I believe you. I know it's still around in Georgia and in North and South Carolina because I used to run a very large website on Outsider Art and included Southern Folk Potters on it. I went to visit twice and it was shocking that these icons of American Folk Art were living in such conditions. Shameful in this day and age that citizens are left in such poverty while the fat cats in D.C. are living large off our taxes and ill-gotten money and lobbyists.

I think the reason poverty like this still exists is a combination of poor circumstances, dead-economy areas, accustomed ways, and sometimes lack of motovation.

Hmm, true. In many cases, if one has no money to escape to a better situation then apathy sets in and hence what appears to be a lack of motivation. It's a circle of hell. The billions of dollars spent elsewhere should be spent on our own country's infrastructure and people first. Education here is pathetic, health care... what is that? This country is headed towards another Great Depression thanks to you know who. There will be a lot more people living in these sorts of conditions.

hauntingly beautiful music and photos. I love the angles of the shots-- they draw you in. Makes me want to work so much harder on my own photos so they may endure for so many years. Because you are aware of rural poverty in the US I'd appreciate you viewing my video. I live in Eastern Kentucky and work with low income families.

Could someone message me and let me know where to find more of this slower, ballad style oldtime music? I play clawhammer but hard to come across this style and I don't always like playing the fast dance tunes. Thanx, this is a wonderful video and this lifestyle is style to be found here in the Ozarks as well.

music video great compilation
Its hard to believe so much hardship has been and continues to be endured by so many in the forgotton areas of this great country
Its amazing how such hardship can still produce such feeling as expressed in theses photos and the raw music from these remote places and experiences

Excellent video. It looks like my old family photo albums. I'm Appalachian born and bred and though poverty and lack of opportunities are still a persistent problem, I feel blessed to live in such a beautiful, diverse environment with some of the friendliest people in the world. Also, you can't go wrong with Dock Boggs.
